I've seen them in concert and think would like them more if the lead singer (Dave King IIRC) had a deeper voice.

Honestly, I wouldn't know how to characterize it. Many songs I just find the vocals shrill, which can make for a bad combo when you play songs with a lot of fiddles, tin whistles and the odd uilleanns.

I still own a few things by them but lets say some songs work better than others for me.

It always surprises me that the Dave King from Flogging Molly is the same one from Fastway. He definitely had a great rock sneer, almost Dio-esque without the polish.

Yeah, I'm just waiting for the show where he jokingly asks for rquests show I can shout out Say What You Will and see his reaction. Wink I'm sure, having just turned 51 the other day, he's mortified by his brief 80's hair metal fame.

Still, the song still holds up with age.

Great show last night. My back is telling me that maybe 43 IS too old to crowd surf after all. Tongue I should've listened to the wife.....

Listening to my Phil Spector Christmas CD right now (wish I could get the album on vinyl!):

White Christmas-Darlene Love
Frosty the Snowman- The Ronettes (the VERY best version, with the Beach Boys coming a close second)

I'm now just getting ready to listen to Connie Francis' Christmas in My Heart (also on CD rather than vinyl--bummer, but still great).

John's Children - Midsummer Night's Scene
Bitter Creek - Plastic Thunder
Panda Bear - Take Pills

Last one is modern and sample heavy, but it's done to great effect.
