I'd argue that no one 8 years ago would think that an obscure black State Senator from Illinois would become the 44th POTUS. So who do you guys see might have a catapultic rise to the national spotlight.
I'd say
Senatorial Candidate Martin Heinrich of New Mexico
Congressional Candidate Beto O'Rourke of Texas
State Auditor Adam Edelen
SoS Alison Grimes of Kentucky
Congressional Candidate Joe Kennedy III of Massachusetts
Speaker Shap Smith of Vermont
Dem Chairman Chris Redfern of Ohio
Congressional Candidate Patrick Murphy of Florida

Joe Kennedy III is a Kennedy, so he isn't that obscure.

Congressional Candidate Eric Swalwell of California
Attorney General Kamala Harris of California
Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom of California
Former Congressman Tom Periello of Virginia
Congressman Julian Amash of Michigan
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock of Colorado

I get your point but 8 years ago? Obama's high profile and universally lauded convention speech was 8 years ago, he was about to be elected US Senator in a landslide, and plenty of people were saying he'd be the next president, or at least a president at some point. He wasn't exactly "an obscure black State Senator" then. This type of thing made sense in 2008 but a lot of time has passed since then.

Yeah, them too. The reason I didn't include Amash is because MI is too blue for him to try for statewide office. Agreed on Love.

If we're assuming the "Obama route" (Senate/Governor this year), then Jeff Flake, Joe Donnelly (maybe like Bayh), Kurt Bills (longshot), Martin Heinrich, Ted Cruz, Jon Tester, Steve Bullock, and Walter Dalton.

Florida-specific: Jeff Brandes, Will Weatherford, Richard Corcoran, Bob Buckhorn, and Rick Baker (especially if he gets a job in a Romney administration).

Elizabeth Warren is the only person being elected as a new senator/governor this year that I could see winning the nomination for president in 2016, and that's only if President Romney is popular and Democrats put up an idealistic sacrificial lamb. And that's pretty unlikely too. Obama was very unique.

Its best to put up a moderate sacrificial lamb than a liberal or conservative one.

What about George P. Bush? Still quite obscure, will probably run for something in 2014.

LOL all these Republicans putting Mia Love on there even though she lost her race, honestly is it because she's black in a party with 88% of the representatives being white?!

Please not Pam Bondi. Putnam is tolerable. Kristi Noem is awesome though. So is Thune.
