I have a lot going on with finals. The only 2 things I remember voting on recently were today. I opposed your bill for the reason I gave and I opposed the other because, as I explained earlier, I was never a fan of some of the Imperial whatever things in the IDS because they undid the glorious southern charm I installed when I was governor. PiT can attest to this. So can Yankee. This isn't some unknown qualm. Things like Bourbon Thursdays, horse racing on sundays, and ham biscuits on the Governor's Plantation's lawn every Saturday morning while we all watch college football. Not this silly knighthood, coat of arms, imperial police and jousting. This isn't mediaeval England.

You see, Ben, that is what the south is about. That was what we did a while ago. The IDS is relatively new. It wasn't my baby. The Dirty South was when we went from a region with 1 active member to one with 15.

My voting may indicate something to you, and that's fine, but I stand with where my beliefs are. That's what's nice about not being in the Labor or Federalist Party. I can vote my conscious.

Well, that's fine. You can understand that the region has been under a bit of a seige recently... I had enough trouble keeping order here back with seatown's bill. There were riots, etc, here.

It's a bit frusterating to be playing defense all the time and then go to the legislature and watching all your bills go down to 3-2 splits.

That's why I left the Senate...except they were 7-3 splits and my bills had been mutilated into a list of left-wing talking points. It was a pretty soul-destroying experience, and I would have left this forum a long time ago if I didn't have the opportunity to rebirth myself in this region.

The sad thing was, the RPP held five seats in the Senate, but we had no ability to find common ground on the issues before us. An Examiner article by Jas at the time noted that the non-RPP Senators were a far more unified voting bloc than the RPP Senators were.

Duke and Kenobi, may I suggest you two draft a bill together? It may be just the thing to heal this rift and get back on the same page. Smiley

I would be more than happy to do so if Duke is willing. I understand that he is busy and such legislation wouldn't likely come up for some time.

I would expedite it. It would come up quite quickly.

Probably the funniest thing about this whole saga is, despite Ben Kenobi's idea that he, and he alone represents texas, in his last election, the actual residents of texas voted for evil socialist laborite Adam Griffin over him.

Yes, you also have to realize that he has not held any sort of comfirmation of the other Texans, his definition of Texas is himself, and he thinks that everyone in Texas is just a clone of him who agrees with everything he says.

Also I hit show comment so many times in this thread

The Office of Ben Kenobi is announcing that after consultation with party officials inside the IDS, outside the IDS, and my own constituents, that the motion for Secession is withdrawn.

I also have other follow up announcements to come. Smiley

*Radio ad for the Austin area*

Hello everyone! Every Atlasia citizen is welcome to join in on the Ben Kenobi re-election campaign to the IDS to celebrate! There's going to be lots of food, lots of good music and best of all, we've got the Longhorns who've agreed to show up for this massive tailgate party at Longhorn Stadium!

Everyone is invited, even Velasco!

*plays tape*

"I'll never understand what you, Americans, use to call football."

Shouldn't we give Velasco a hearty, southern welcome to Texas folks?

Be there or be square!

Yep. I prefer what Americans call soccer and in the rest of the world is called football. How is it called in Atlasia? Thanks for the invitation, btw. We, the southerners, know how to be courteous, in spite of our differences Wink

I've decided to rewrite Brase's sig. I believe he shall find it somewhat improved. :b:

Oh Hark! Another fallacy!
Demand can't grow economy?!
We produce, so that we can buy;
Demand's enabled by supply.
If we seek greater consumption,
Then we must increase production.
Our Productivity increase
Drives Poverty's direct decrease.
The Law of Markets tells us why:
"All Growth is driven by supply."

All growth is driven by supply doesn't quite make sense, as countries have been prosperous as middle men. Also productivity up means poverty down only if there are rules saying so. Look at Africa under colonial rule (yes that example is used again, but its true!).

Mercantalism is far different from Adam Smith's principles, and actually works contrary to them.

Yes, and I do opose Mecantalism, but when you say "all" or make broad generalizations, make sure there are no exceptions. Also you didn't address my second point.

Finally I don't always agree with Adam Smith. This one passage "By pursuing his own interest he frequently promotes that of the society more effectually than when he really intends to promote it"
I disagree with.

If you define poverty as relative, yes. But if you define poverty as the actual standard of living, it holds. It's actually a feature that everyone's standard of living increases, but that wealth inequality increases too. Inequality isn't a bad thing when it comes to wealth. We want people to be able to get ahead of the game.

Yeah, sure. A smaller government lets people keep more money, and become wealthier than they were before. I'm a complete proponent of this social activism. :b:

Wealthy people are a good thing.

Wealthy people would be a good thing if there was not a single poor people. Whilst there are, though, wealthy people are just what stands in the way...
