Inspired by a debate on another forum (granted it was basically one person vs. everyone else) where someone threw a fit about a certain house venue in Milwaukee. Supposedly it's some type of "cultural imperialism"...or whatever. The Unfortunate Implications over that it was wrong to hold an event that would attract an almost all white crowd to a black area was brought up though...

Sounds like a ridiculous argument. I voted no.

It did remind me of this one time I was at a house show and between bands a bunch of people, mostly drunk were hanging out on the front yard and this black lady walked by with her young daughter. Her daughter looked a little interested and then woman was like "No, stay away" and kind of yanked her in the opposite direction. I thought it was kind of strange since that woman was almost 100% certain to be voting for Obama, as was basically every person in attendance.

What's a "holding house show"? Or is it just a "show" in a house? If so, it's no less disrespectful to black culture than it is to culture at large.

Basically yes. A house show is just where bands play in the basement or living room of a house.

I wouldn't see why not; before a family buys a home, they almost always want to tour the home before committing to purchase it, to make sure everything is in proper order and nothing major needs to be replaced/repaired. As such, an agent or the homeowner showing the house is a must. Don't see why it'd be disrespectful to black culture.

That's not what a house show is.

He's talking about when people show movies or whatever to more than just a few friends.

Well I also don't see what's wrong with watching House in a black neighborhood. It hasn't been noted for racism or anything.

If the black people feel disrespected, they'll let you know. Don't worry about that.
