At the age of 72.

Many of you may know that he ran for the Libertarian Party's nomination in 1988, losing to none other than Ron Paul.

RIP.

The rapture. It's official. (Even though Russell's politics have been strange occasionally.)

Also, your avatar still fits (or at least the state does).

Got to meet him once after he spoke at my college back in Norfolk. He was definitely an interesting guy, with some great stories. Plus I get to tell my daughter I met Pocahontas's dad.

RIP

RIP. A great American, and a great supporter of the liberty movement.

Only the good though.

RIP despite often misguidedness (including his leap into libertarianism among other things), his cause was essentially a good one.

Not to speak ill of Means, but I have trouble seeing the Wounded Knee Incident and AIM's participation in it as anything other than a disaster for the people of Pine Ridge.

I don't know too much about him, but I understand that he was a very important figure in the fight for Native American rights. RIP, FF.

Seriously? How so? You think any of the problems it cannot tackle were not around before? You think Rosebud or Crow Creek are better off?

Of course the problems there have a long history before that - this didn't come out of nowhere.
The issue is what was exacerbated in this instance - particularly in terms of violence and mistrust in the community.  From what I understand this did have a lasting, destructive effect.
