Obama won on points.  It will not stop the momentum.  Romney looked reasonable.

If it just military, I'd probably vote for Obama.

I understand you are a partisan, but look at the facts on the ground here.  He won the CBS poll by a bigger margin that Romney did back on October 3rd.  When Romney won that big, it was a game changer.

He didn't on CNN by a wide margin.

Obama had some problems.  He attacked too much.  A lot of both of their answers were "Me too."  The subsidiary results were favorable, e.g. "Likable"  being 48/47 Obama.

This is the kind of stuff that is very painful for Romney right now:

CNN's poll (which has more republicans than democrats) gave Obama a comfortable lead. This is more than I thought he would get.

Still Obama will not be able to capitalize as much from this as Romney did in the first debate.

The election will stay close and now it will come down to the work the candidates do in the key states.

Going into the final sprint Obama has a slight advantage. His job is to hold on to that advantage and take back some of the ground he lost after the first debate.

Romndy needs to keep trying to break of chunks of Obama's lead and not stagnate.

My full comments as usual on http://www.yourelection.net

I did work some on the election game during the debates using the debates as inspiration on how to work these into the game. More on that also in the post.

Who did the debate make you more likely to vote for?
Obama: 24%

Mitt Romney dispirited the base tonight, returning it pre-first debate enthusiasm levels.

The CNN sample must have been incredibly Republican.

CNN Poll:

Who did the debate make you more likely to vote for?
Obama: 24%
Romney: 25%
Neither: 50%

And again, if this is a heavily Republican leaning poll, having 75% of people not say "Romney" is at least damning for enthusiasm, which is a place Obama needed to equalize, even if by bringing Romney down to his level rather than rising up.

They certainly won't vote for Obama ever, but that 50% neither in CNN's heavy-R poll and that kind of comment from Beck (Foxnews was also criticizing Romney heavily) does suggest the great possibility that more may now stay home than before this debate. Even if Obama doesn't have the "Big Mo'" now, Romney has certainly lost it.

Ha ha, I don't know a republican who wouldn't crawl through broken glass while it was raining molten lava to vote this time around.  Good luck with that thought.

That may be true, but if a boring debate like this turned them off from voting, then chances are they weren't going to vote to start with and just looking for a reason to stay home. Of course I could be wrong.

The thing is, these people will still vote for him.  A vote for Romney with enthusiasm or one while holding your nose is still a vote for Romney.  In no way do I see voters suddenly turning to Virgil Goode or not voting at all because of this.

Grieving Stages

Denial - Expressed as the discounting of polls showing that Obama won the debate in spite of its Republican representation

Anger - Expressed in the hackish comments and rants awarding Romney the debate and declaring over what is essentially a tied game (or at least, tied at the moment)

Bargaining - Takes the form of a fallback belief that while Obama may have won the debate according to polls, it doesn't matter much, and there will be no shift on either candidate's side

Acceptance - Not in sight.  November election results will be tossed because too many Democrats voted.

Anyone ever told you you're an insufferably arrogant little weasel, objectively speaking from the standpoint of someone who wouldn't vote Romney even if Obama personally held a mass execution? No harm in that, but the hackshow is getting more pathetic than usual.

Wait, but you're not saying that to the guy who started it by calling the President a "punk" who should be "tossed on his ass"? After that, Lief is the insufferable arrogant little weasel?

Just checking.

Seriously? He was responding perfectly appropriately to Krazen's Roll Eyes-y post. Don't be a fool.
