How many weeks vacation do you get?

I realise that many posters here are students and this question doesn't apply to them.

However for those of you with "real" jobs how many vacation weeks are you entitled to each year?
Also how many Holidays do you have?

Here in NZ we are legally entitled to four weeks vacation and have the following holidays:
New Year's Day
January 2nd
Waitangi Day
Individual Provincial Anniversary Day
Good Friday
Easter Monday
Anzac Day
Queen's Birthday
Labour Day
Christmas Day
Boxing Day.....so eleven days although Waitangi Day and Anzac Day are not "Mondayised"

Is there any modern democracy bur the U.S. without legally mandated vacation time?

Lots of public holidays here in Thailand.. I think the absolute right by labor law for individual holidays (in addition to public holidays) is only two weeks or so though.

In practice a lot of people here are small business people - for example restaurateurs - and they often take long holidays at will.

Off the top of my head, we get the last week of June, all of July and August and a few days into September for Summer break at school.

Holiday-wise, we get Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashana (forgive me if I spelled it incorrectly) and then there's others but I forget which ones.

Plus Austria also has one of the most public holidays in the EU, one of which is this Friday (Austrian National Day, Day of the Declaration of Neutrality) and the next one already next Thursday (All Saints' Day).

No, 5. Because your regular day off in a holiday week is accounted for as a "holiday" day.

What the heck?  That's crazy.  So you should always take your 30 days holiday piecemeal and avoid including any weekends in it, in order to maximize non-working time?

If it were me I would take my holiday Tues-Wed-Thurs for ten weeks, and then take Monday and Friday as sick days.. hmm. maybe 20 sick days would be too many.

I get ten days off for holidays observed by the county. Otherwise, I get no weeks of vacation over the next year. On the other hand, I am underemployed and so far can only work two or three days per week, which is perhaps both a curse and blessing.

One week vacation, but it's paid as a bonus on the anniversary of my hire date, which is in October. I usually take an unpaid week off in the summer and go somewhere to escape the heat. Technically evens out.
