I believe in a less micromanaging God - but the idea that the creation of every human life is willed by God (regardless of circumstance) is not an unusual idea for a Christian, and I can see why some people might find this idea comforting.

Why not say who you voted for already?
There's a reason there are private ballots. I'll likely let it slip at some point, but this gaffe just further proves what an awful array of candidates there was to choose from. There are a lot of Democrats and Republicans out there I'd rather have than these two.

This seems to be a common problem in Indiana Smiley

Ellsworth, Bayh, Coats, Mourdock, Donnelley. Terrible state to have to vote in.

The curse of the primary challenge lives on in the GOP. I look forward to 2014. Imagine the hilarity of a Franken/Bachmann race or a Begich/Miller disaster.

Well this certainly won't be helping his campaign.

I think that's the understatement of the year.

So it seems I may not have to change my prediction.

I'm starting to suspect that both Akin and Mourdock were longtime sleepers for the DNC and were just activated.

I still think Mourdock wins. But I though Akin was likely to win in the first few weeks after his statement, too.

They seem to have lost the detonator button for Ryan. Sad

Indeed, but you can extend this logic infinitely. If you believe God is omnipotent, then everything that happens in the world happens either because he wants it to happen or because he lets it happens. War, genocide, etc.

I don't see really anything wrong with this comment other than the fact that it reminds voters about Akin=Republican=Romney...ya.

I would pay actual money to see a Franken/Bachmann debate.

McCain says Mourdock should apologize and implies that he may not support him if he doesn't.

Mourdock will still be favored to win - a lot of Hoosier's probably agree with this statement, honestly.

No, he'll probably lose now. Indiana isn't Alabama. You guys voted for Obama in '08 for crying out loud...
And we also voted for Coats over Ellsworth in 2010...by 15 points. Time will tell - this will close the gap, but I don't think this will cost Mourdock the election, sadly.

Still, I'm feeling pretty goddamn justified in my endorsement of Boneham right about now.
Horning, you mean. He isn't too bad - just keeps talking about how bad the two-party system is in America.

Indiana voted for Coats by 15 points in the storm of the century for Republicans.

Also as someone who thinks Indiana could've done better on this one (cough Marlin Stutzman cough) I can understand Mourdock's view. I'm certian he deplores rape (I've talked with him on several occasions on issues) but what about the child in the womb? But who will advocate, from the place of government, for that kid who is human and should be protected under the 14 th Amendment?

So how many years in prison should a woman who aborts a prgnancy caused by rape serve, JCL?

If you use the 14th as a means of setting the line for personhood, you get birth as that line, with no restrictions on even late term abortions.

Birth isn't the line. The line would be conception.

You do know that abortion existed in the U.S. long before Roe vs. Wade, right?

Sorry, a glob of undifferentiated cells is not a person. If we were to ban abortion, we might as well make fellatio and menstruation a crime because those cells had "the POTENTIAL!!!11" to be a person.

The 14th amendment grants all citizens the equal protection of laws. It also defines citizens as "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof". So the 14th amendment doesn't protect fetuses.
