Are you voting for a candidate because you like that candidate, or simply because he's better than the alternative?

Very much for both reasons. I think positively of Obama and very negatively of Romney.

If I were American and living in my adopted state of Colorado, I'd vote for Obama because the race is so close at the moment.

Otherwise I would vote for Jill Stein, if Obama gets a big enough boost in the polls in the next 10 days or so.

As for the poll options: #1

Obama has been a great president. He's saved the economy and worked tremendously hard to turn things around, despite being opposed by a borderline-seditious Republican party every step of the way. He passed a healthcare reform bill that will change the lives of tens of millions of Americans, including people I know and people in my family, allowing them to have and afford health insurance for the first time. He's a good person, at his core, who believes in fairness and believes that government should work as much as possible for all Americans instead of just the privileged few who can afford to buy their politicians. He believes in equality for gays and lesbians, he believes in protecting voting rights, he believes that law-abiding immigrants should be allowed to remain in this country and become full-fledged citizens, he believes that global warming is real, he believes that people should be able to make their own medical decisions rather than be told what to do by old, white religious men. He's been far from perfect, but he's been the best president in my life. I'm voting for him, and my vote for him will be much more meaningful to me than it was four years ago.

Mitt Romney, of course, also sucks. A lot. He put his f[inks]ing dog in a cage on top of a car for eight hours for Christ's sake.

Haven't decided if I'll vote Romney as an anti-Obama vote or for Obama as a I want a 2016 republican to win vote.

Both reasons, but my like for Obama is admittedly superficial. On a substantive level I hate Romney more than I like Obama.

Another thing - I'm happiest to be voting AGAINST Romney's supporters. Their disgusting behavior over the last 4 years has been beyond offensive and evil, and I can't wait to see their shock and disappointment on election night. Politics aside, people like them should not be allowed to think they've had any sort of victory whatsoever.

Yeah I feel this way too.  To be honest Mitt Romney, bad as he is, is better than his supporters, if that makes sense.  To see this really horrible segment of society crowing their return to supremacy and the return of the Black to his proper place would be pretty unbearable.

I strongly agree with the above two posts. The teabaggers, racists and bigots that make up Romney's base cannot be allowed to win.

When I went to an Occupy protest outside of Romney's local HQ, Romney's supporters kept attacking us. Not only did they argue with us about their own tinfoil hat delusions, but one guy actually charged towards us to physically fight us.

They are thugs.

I agree that a lot of elements of the Occupy movement are disgusting and barbaric, but they're a very VERY small segment of the liberal movement, and certainly insignificant among elected officials.

On the other hand, the majority of conservatives have reacted in a histrionic and racist way to the first black president, and that includes numerous elected officials.

Actually, the thuggery I was talking about in my last post was from the Romney campaign, not from Occupy.
