Roll Eyes aside, Colorado does have pretty high turnout for a state with no election-day registration:

* http://elections.gmu.edu/Turnout_2012G.html

* http://www.ncsl.org/legislatures-elections/elections/same-day-registration.aspx

Any background on why that's the case?

^^ Also I don't think that bit about Oregon and Washington mailing a ballot to every eligible voter is right. They probably meant to every registered voter. In Oregon the envelope containing the ballot has your unique voter ID number from the statewide election database printed on it so I don't see how they'd mail one to people who are eligible but not currently registered to vote.

What's the chance Gessler loses the Secretary of State race next year? PPP just released a recent Colorado poll today and he had negative approvals with low name-recognition/opinion: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_CO_417.pdf

I enjoy how expanding voting rights = evil Democratic trick.

Yeah it's that annoying false equivalency that says Colorado expanding voting access by adopting election-day registration is the same as Montana Republicans reducing voting access by abolishing election-day registration for the second time[1].

"Both sides are changing the laws in different directions so they're both up to no good."

We can't possibly analyze the merits behind the change.

Gessler doesn't look in as bad a position as some of these posts have been saying but maybe it's the opponent? (I have no idea who CO Democrats are beyond the elected ones)

Those are some pretty good numbers for same-sex marriage too. I wonder if there will be a push for that 2014 legalization ballot measure after all? They're probably waiting for how SCOTUS rules on Prop 8/DOMA in June.

The election overhaul bill has passed the legislature: http://www.coloradostatesman.com/content/994142-democratic-backed-elections-reform-bill-heads-guv

Pretty sure Hickenlooper is going to sign the bill and that its provisions will take effect before the 2014 general election. Colorado is definitely on track to become the third postal voting state.

In-state tuition for undocumented college students, expanded background checks, civil unions (not quite moderate hero since there's a state constitutional ban on gay marriage), Medicaid expansion, same-day registration, etc. Pretty good legislative session for Democrats. It will be impressive if they hold both houses of the state legislature in 2014 (which looks fairly likely [1]).

It all looks like a big shift for the state compared to 10 years ago too.

Hope Gessler goes down next.

Gessler is in for CO-Gov. Wonder how the primary is going to play out. I've been assuming Tancredo is the most favored there but there hasn't been any polling on that to confirm/deny.
