I'm delighted to see this idea come to the floor, and that it has been so well received!  I cannot in any real sense convey the life-changing impact attending GHP over the summer had on me, but I will say, that it is worth every penny and hour that we invest into it.

The amendments I propose below, I believe, will make the program more competitive and rigorous to gain entrance.

If the Year round school act had been adopted, I don't think a 6-week Governor's school during summer break would have been feasible.

Seeing as the former was not adopted, the problems it would pose to the later are not really existent.

I fully support this legislation, and I think the amendment proposed by Barnes will greatly improve the effectiveness of this program.  If the sponsors have no objection, I'd like to move to a vote.
