...there's a natural alliance between conservation and hunting that used to be quite politically strong and still is in some areas, such as northern New England. I can't think of any reason why hunters would be inherently less likely to support more broadly environmentalist causes either, beyond general cultural conservatism anyway.

...there's a natural alliance between conservation and hunting that used to be quite politically strong and still is in some areas, such as northern New England. I can't think of any reason why hunters would be inherently less likely to support more broadly environmentalist causes either, beyond general cultural conservatism anyway.

It is this alliance that makes
1)  The MN DFL friendlier to gun owners than national Dems
and
2)  The MN GOP friendlier to environmental causes than the national GOP.
