Why not the Carolinas? They were very close to begin with.

Dole carried North Carolina by 5 points and South Carolina by 6; I don't think Clinton would have quite been able to swing those states against Quayle. NC would be very close, but in SC the white vote is too solidly Republican for a Democrat to win.

i agree that quayle would have been a terrible candidate.  but i do think he would have done pretty well in the south.  you all are forgetting how popular he was with the religious right.

he is one of them!
