Not shocked. It's a pretty open election I think. Obama leads in some polls, Romney leads in others. Most of them seem to be within the margin of error. Republicans are fired up to vote, democratic early votes are down from 2008. It can go either way.

Considering the volatile, all over the place polls and the fact that this is the country that elected Bush twice, not at all.

Yeah, shocked is a thing you eventually stop being, I think, when you follow politics. Sure there are always those "now I've seen it all!" moments, but you almost come to expect some sort of misread or other wackiness. Would I be severely disappointed? Absolutely. Would I be shocked? Nah, not really.

Not at all. While Obama appears to have a slight edge at the moment this is a very close election. If most of the undecideds break against the incumbent, which I still think is a likely scenario, Romney has a real shot at winning the remaining swing states.

This is not at all a close election.

Sure, it's extremely close in all national polls, most even showing Romney in the lead.  But electorally, Obama's reelection is almost a sure fire probability.  Romney leads nationally slightly, while Obama leads in the states he needs to win in order to be reelected...not a close election.

I'll be a little surprised if Romney wins, but not shocked.

He's just not well-positioned to win the Electoral College this time around, even running against the most lackluster incumbent in decades.

The mainstream media and liberal media have been pretty positive for Obama the last 4 years.  There is certainly no "Blame Obama" meme unlike the "Blame Bush" meme.

The media has been "Anti-Bush" for 12 years, and "Anti-Republican" since 1994, so at least the 50% of the country that voted for Gore has solidified its Democratic Love affair for the last 20 years.

That's why many liberals thought Kerry would win in 2004, because there was so much anti-Bush bias in the liberal media, and the fact that Gore won the PV in 2000, made it seem like Kerry could match that number.

But Romney has a real 50/50 chance at at least winning the PV.  IF Romney wins, I expect the liberal media like MSNBC pundits Matthews and Maddow to just jump off a cliff.  This will totally destroy their worldview, perhaps more-so than the Bush victories in 2000 and 2004.

Not very. I think the state of this race is very fragile, despite the odds.

Romney could win...I would say I would be surprised. At this point, I would say that something unforeseen will put Romney over the top if he does win. Maybe he ran a better end-campaign or maybe there is a Bradley effect, or both.

Basically, if Obama loses, I think that its back to 2003, for the Democrats and that the average American should start reevaluating their values... "Am I really racist? Am I just making excuses?"

I'd be surprised, but not shocked.  What I would be shocked about would be if the GOP took the Senate.

Opebo is that you?
Love how instead of democrats reevaluating their failed policies if Romney wins, it's instead about the "racism" of the "average American" (a type of person who doesn't exist btw, except in political punditry)
Far be it to look deeper at what made a large portion of the electorate swing from Obama to Romney (hint: it's not racism)

Pretty surprised. I expect Obama to win by 2% nationally with about 303 electoral votes. Romney picks up NC, IN and maybe NH. If he wins anymore than that, I will be surprised, and if he wins the election, I would be really surprised.

I'd be pretty surprised.  If it comes down to Ohio though, I expect a Diebold Romney win.  But really, Obama should have enough EVs locked down.

It wouldn't surprise me. I'd say the big thing comes down to the "right direction/wrong direction" point. Romney's favourables are still strong, and most Americans seem unimpressed with the direction of the country, even if they like President Obama on a personal level.

I would be very shocked, tens of thousands of Ohioans have been polled, the M.O.E. on a sample size that large combined  has to be under 1%.

Not quite shocked, but I'd be surprised.

There aren't many candidates that have consistently lead that lose.
