I've only been there once, when I was a kid, visiting a brother of mine in Tucson on a family vacation.  I remember lots of haze and very long drives in and out of the state.  My brother appears to love it there, he has spent most of the last 30+ years in Tucson.  But I need to go back to form an opinion.

I was there a few months ago in June at the Grand Canyon, my 2nd time in the state. Love it so far, went to Flagstaff for a pitstop and checked out a few monuments around the area.  The heat didn't bother me when it got up to 105F in certain areas, which is surprising.

Grand Canyon is overrated. Rest of the state is boring at best and miserable at worst.

Disagree. Not at all overrated, but it's the only reason to go to Arizona.

Hot, barren, boring... my grandparents retired to Arizona and lived there for about 20 years until my grandfather died.  Been there a couple times and despite being happy to see them... it was absolutely miserable.  It's just too hot, and the state likes to "see ze papers"

I heard their winters are awesome though.  My family are actually looking for a newer home down there, either Prescott Valley or Queen Creek/Gilbert area, they will be retiring in 2014.

The Phoenix metro dominates the state, so lean Horrible State.

That being said, the more rural parts where no one few people live, seem alright.

Rural Arizona is either depressingly poor American Indian reservations (which have nice people but are not places anyone would want to live), retirement communities where the average age is 75, or towns where half of the houses trailers that people call houses are meth labs. Oh, and the Grand Canyon. I guess that makes it sort of okay.

I know Arizona is a gigantic state, so there's a lot of diversity in the geography.  I can tell you that the expanse from the Grand Canyon, to Phoenix, to Yuma... a gigantic area.. is a barren inferno.  I'm sure the winters are nice, though.  Just can't get over the summers, though.

The North is very nice for tourists. And not just the Grand Canyon. There's the Painted Desert, Monument Valley, the Navajo Nation, Sedona. I loved the Vermillion Cliffs. Never been to the South. Don't think I could tolerate the heat or the sandstorms.

Joe Arpaio is awesome, we could use him in Denver and clean out the mess lingering around here.

Seems like it would be horribly dry and dusty.
