Madigan's playing coy as to whether she'll challenge Quinn in the primary... if Quinn runs again. Any resident Illinoisans here?

For a well-known candidate there's not a rush to jump in yet. The next seven months are the time to organize and sense who else might be out there. A first point comes when the new legislature is seated in January. That marks the end of the lame duck session and sets the table for controversial issues that will drive the 2014 campaign.

The next decision point is after May when the legislature wraps up. Petition circulation begins in the fall, so the summer of 2013 is a time of detailed organization for the top contenders. Up until then the candidates will be identifying top political and financial support, but don't have to be that public.

All I can say, after the denials... he better be straight, because if he looks higher than Congress that stuff is ALL going to come out.

Would it kill him if it came out in the general though after a primary win? I could see potentially extreme social conservatives and their money staying home, but if anything, wouldn't that make him more appealing to moderate democrats and independents? Of course, a scandal IS a scandal

Wouldn't that look a tad strategic....coming out between the primary and the general?

I'm not saying coming out voluntarily, that would be way to strategic and risky. I'm saying forced out and reap the benefits over the consequences.

A GOPer CANNOT win in IL without support from the SoCons downstate... it's a simple as that. Honestly, I think the rumours are enough to scuttle him.

I think Schock would be better off staying in Congress, getting a leadership position. Mike Fortner would be the more logical pick for Governor.
