Lets say for argument's sake, the Supreme Court in February 2001, decides that it made a mistake on the Bush vs Gore case that settled the 2000 presidential election, and calls for another election in November of 2001.

George W. Bush is the incumbent president and is nominated by the GOP with Dick Cheney as his running mate. Al Gore gets nominated by the Democrats once again with Joseph Lieberman as his running mate. After 9/11, New York mayor Rudi Giuliani enters the race as well as an Independent.

The parties hold their conventions in July and August as usual (except for Giuliani's campaign which does not start until early October), and all events take place as they did during our timeline.

How do you think this election would play out, and who do you think would win?

Considering Bush was very high popularity wise in late 2001, most likely a Republican landslide, something like this:

I agree with the popularity part, but would 9/11 be able to completely change a campaign that has been going on for 6 months prior to the event? The election would take place about six weeks after 9/11. Is that enough time? Wouldn't the Gore campaign attack Bush for a massive "intelligence failure"? What about Giuliani, he had high ratings in late 2001 as well, could he split the GOP vote to some extent?

Also, who else do you guys think would be willing to jump into a race like this?

I think Bush's 9/11 bump lasted into early 2002.  IMO he could win upwards of 70% of the popular vote; the narrative would be "it's not safe right now to change leadership" and veiled insinuations of "do you trust this guy more than me?"

Could be a 50-state OFAK

A Rudy Giuliani landslide

Giuliani (I) 51%
Bush (R) 35%
Gore (D) 14%

I tend to think that if we are talking about 2001 people will likely look at Gore.... and maybe Biden, Kerry, and maybe Corzine?

Giuliani entering the Presidential race as an independent? Wow! I'm sure he would've seeked the Reform Party's nod. Maybe he could've won the race? Tongue

http://

I used the 2004 map and didn't have the option of having a third party candidate. Otherwise, I would have given NY to Giuliani and possibly CT to Gore.
