You know a poll like this was only inevitable.....

So, both are Northeastern Catholics, likely two-term governors by the time they run, and both are as tough as nails.  Which of them do you think would win if they were running against each other in November 2016?

Well, assuming Obama is reelected, Christie seems like the obvious choice to me. Republicans should be heavily favored to win in 2016.

Both decent candidates. I say Christie wins out close to tmthforu's map.

Christie and I'd probably vote for him against most people.

Id vote for Cuomo over most of the people the Republicans are thinking about, but not Christie.

I'd vote for Christie, but I'd would be happy with a Cuomo win as well. I don't really think they'd be too different in practice, except for on social issues perhaps.

While I think this race would be amusing as hell, purely in terms of being a blood sport, I would almost certainly end up voting for a third party candidate.

Not sure the rest of the country would support two candidates from such a distinctive small quarter of the country

Conservatives love Christie even though he is a moderate. He's easily the favorite.

I don't really think you can assume Christie would win his home state (especially against someone who's probably on New Jersey TV just as often as he is).

New Jersey's off-off-year elections have extremely low turnout. Even if he wins in a landslide next year he probably won't win more votes than McCain got from NJ in 2008. This huge portion of the New Jersey electorate that doesn't bother to vote for governor probably wouldn't really care he's their governor when he runs for President. Besides, he'd doubtlessly need to make a big shift to the right to make it through a Republican primary, which would turn a lot of voters off.

I would lean Cuomo on this one --but I don't have a problem voting for Christie.
