Wine.  Red, of course.  Possibly a throaty Zinfandel with protruding midribs and razor stubble on its legs; possibly an elegant pinot noir with notes of rich, red berries; possibly a peppery, smoky, full-bodied rioja alavesa.  Depends upon the menu, really.

I've lots to do Wednesday morning, so I'll lay off the hard stuff, but I'm sure to polish off at least one 750-ml bottle of red wine as I watch the election returns.

I will probably go with some scotch. Not for any election result reasons.. it's mainly because it tastes good. Also, I'll have to deal with most of you idio..guys on the 2012 board. I'm gonna need something to get me with that.

Should I drink Makers Mark or just red wine? Or PBR?

I don't know whether or not I can get away with having really good stuff this election night.  I'll likely be watching returns alone, and the gf would kick me in some places I'd prefer to keep for a while if I bought anything expensive.  But 2008 was, in my mind, a quite special year, and I had a party with five other close friends, so I made sure I had special drinks.  On tap was Stone Ruination IPA, a couple of bottles of 2005 MacPhail pinot noir from a great Sonoma family winery, and one bottle of Johnny Walker Blue.  It was glorious.  If I'm lucky this time, I'll find some Paulaner or St. Bernardes wheat beer and nurse it myself.

I have several bottles of Paulaner Weißbier in my fridge right now...

Nice, Franzl!  Good stuff.  Halifax has, for the most part, rather crummy beers for imports because Nova Scotia Liquor Consortium has such a monopoly in the province.  You have to go out of your way to find Paulaner here.  But if I find it today or tomorrow, I'm buying all of it.  Prost!

Come drink with me. I'm thinking of having a nice cigar while at it at the lounge next door.

You guys gotta go with American beers. If you're a snob, go for a nice microbrew Wheat Ale. If you're just looking for a wild night, go with PBR, Icehouse or Bud Light Platnium. I think this will be the most fun election night we've had since 2000 so I'm ready to have a blast.

If the results are looking good: straight Goldschlager, that warm cinnamony feel of victory.

If the results look ugly: straight rum/rum and coke. Get terribly drunk and hate every sip of doing so.

Water most likely. Guess I've got some liquor if pigs fly and I feel I need to get drunk.

I have some vodka that I should get rid of. I'm tempted to play a drinking game by taking a shot for every swing state Mitt wins, but I'm worried the R hacks will be right and I'll get alcohol poisoning.

I've got school on at the time, so I can't. If it were on at a decent time....beer or cider, but I don't drink on weekdays anyway.
