He also didn't even break 40%. Or come close.

I'm not really that surprised, but it was notable that he didn't take a single county or really even make one close. The closest right now is Plymouth, which isn't even within 5%. From what it looks like, a number of parts of Massachusetts swung towards President Obama. I was actually expecting something around 60-39.

It seems Romney was affected by home state disadvantage. Perhaps the voters of Massachusetts became tired of Romney extolling his unpopular governorship.

Ouch indeed. This is also the first ticket to win neither home state since 1972.

When a potential employer is calling your references, they always ask "Would you hire this person again?"

The Republican senate candidates also lost in both Mitt and Ryan's home states.

He did not. Romney won tiny Maidstone, in Essex County, and slightly less tiny Morgan, in Orleans County. They both seem to contain a lake ringed by vacation homes, though Maidstone's year-round population may be more "concentrated" in the farms along the Connecticut River. Hard to tell. Both were close, though, and I think both voted for Obama in 2008.

Mass. even trended towards Obama; at least Gore had Tenn. trend towards him.

The only county I could've saw him winning was Plymouth County. But that was close, like a 52%-47% defeat for Romney.

I can't believe MA even trended Democrat compared to 2008! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Worst performance for a Presidential candidate in his home State since...

Democrats reaching for running-the-business rhetoric: this will be your downfall, if you do not want it to be.

The fact that Romney is a business private sector-ish guy makes this funny.

John Frémont in 1856. So, Romney's home state loss is second-worst overall.

I can't count how many times we heard in 2000 that Gore lost with "the people who knew him best." At least he won some areas in TN. Romney did worse than Generic R in Massachusetts. Worse than George W. Bush, who was a spectacularly bad fit for the state.

Romney is 1 pt ahead of W in 2004, and 5 pts ahead of W in 2000.

Democratic presidential nominees were carrying all counties of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Hawaii since 1988.

Oops. </Perry>

For some reason I thought that no Dem had topped 60% in Massachusetts recently.

This topic reminds me of the Obama ad with John Kerry

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJGysBwWrJE

We really should have been much more trusting of the people of Massachusetts. Romney's total failure to poll decently in MA was a surefire sign of how people viewed his leadership. I mean, nobody expected him to win it, but even a small native son bounce isn't too much to ask if you were indeed a good governor and have respect from the people there.
