Obama just jumped up to +5 on Rasmussen.

I think the right-wing anti-Bergdahl campaign might be backfiring.

Possibly so, but Rasmussen is so erratic that it probably isn't best to read into that jump. They are consistently the only pollster this year to show Obama with his approval outweighing his disapproval.

Yeah, Rasmussen has no tilt anymore. They're just bad at polling. I'd wager he's at about a 45% approval rating nationally.

It is bad form to use soldiers as political footballs.

Republicans have carped at everything that President Obama has done while offering no solution other than "give us power and ask us no questions". When the President does something right -- it is wise to give him credit for doing so.

Most of us Democrats wanted Dubya to succeed in Afghanistan and Iraq. I don't know how representative I was, but I wanted him to get away with his adventure in Iraq, if only because I thoroughly hated Saddam Hussein.

Suffolk, NH

President’s approval ratings

President Obama, a 6-point winner in the Granite state in 2012, continues to be on the minus side in both personal popularity (45 percent favorable – 49 percent unfavorable) and job performance (39 percent approve – 52 percent disapprove). These ratings are down by a point from last March, when a Suffolk University poll showed his personal popularity at 46 percent favorable – 48 percent unfavorable and 40 percent of voters approving, 51 percent disapproving of the president’s job performance.

Based on the approval rating of the President in Michigan,

Democrats are doing decently well in Michigan despite Barack Obama's unpopularity in the state- only 43% of voters approve of the job he's doing to 52% who disapprove.

A very important question: Why haven't Obama's approvals gone way up since the Hobby Lobby ruling?

If one includes only likely voters, Obama’s approval rating increases to 47%, disapproval at 41%, and unsure at 12%.

What polls should I trust when it comes to approval ratings? RCP includes a bunch that a have widely different results. Is it safe to assume that Gallup is the one to look at?

Gallup seems pretty solid, but if push came to shove and I could only consult one source, I'd want to see the RCP average over anything else. In my opinion, averaging the polls really balances out bias.

Obama only has a 40.9% approval rating on RCP. Why isn't the good economic news reversing the trend?

It's been so long coming that people probably believe the recovery is occurring in spite of Obama, not because of him.

Or, they're just not feeling the so-called "recovery." Despite all the recent employment "growth" data, labor force participation has shown no improvement, while the number of full-time jobs declined by 523,000. Most of the jobs that were created were low-wage and/or part-time, so it isn't surprising that this "recovery" hasn't translated into great approval ratings for Obama.

Most likely both combined, IMO.

Sometimes presidents simply start losing ground in their second terms because they are seen as losing effectiveness.
