Yes, Obama did lose about 9-10 million from his 2008 figure, but Romney's c.58m against McCain's 59 speaks volumes to the lack of quality of his campaign. When the former supporters of your opponent choose to stay home instead of vote for you...

Romney's campaign was terrible. Still, I'm amazed that he came as close as he did.

Yes, it does speak volumes. Conservatives like me either stayed home or voted for third party.

The popular vote totals for both candidates are still going to up a bit.

Kind of a crappy election all around, wasn't it? 2008 is the glory days. McCain and Huckabee teaming up to take out Mitt Romney, Barack Obama vs the Clinton Machine, Sarah Palin in general, the "B" carving in Philadelphia, the stock market shutting down/suspending the campaign. Man, I miss those days.

Everyone, remember it always looks like turnout is way down from the previous election until you remember that there are millions of votes still to be counted. We won't know for sure until results are certified in December.

There are still a few million absentee votes to be counted in CA, OR, WA, AZ, OH etc.

Really... and, well... apparent.
When will that action be considered self mutilation, a disease in most medical circles?

Wait a minute…, would such a disease be covered under ObamaCare?

Yeah, just look at California alone. Right now, there are about 4 million less votes compared to 2008. I don't know what the final turnout will be, but I can't see there being that much of a drop off.

The totals for both candidates will climb by quite a bit.  I'd hope anyone who remembers 2004 or 2008 would remember that.

Obama will pass Bush 04, Romney will almost certainly pass McCain 08.  New York state and New Jersey have a ton of late provisional ballots to count, California still has quite a few votes left to count, as do Arizona and Washington State (which has only counted half of its votes!).

Makes sense. After all, he was white as snow back when he beat McCain by 7%. Roll Eyes

It's funny how you can expect from the US the same as when you have elections in say, Mali or Indonesia : one month before the full certified count...

In France we have official provisional results by midnight with polls closing at 8 PM, and certified definitive results the day after at noon...

And no electronic voting. And 60 to 80% turnout. Come on, we can actually teach how to do that, just ask... Wink

There's roughly 15-20% of the vote left to count. I'm pretty sure Romney will end up over 60M, and Obama should break 64M.
