I am back from Florida, where I personally witnessed Democrats' successful efforts to make downtrodden masses drink Kool-Aid like Jim Jones did. Obama's America is beginning to resemble Jonestown if not something even worse. I am hearing the same thing from all of my contacts in all of the battleground states. Congratulations, Democrats! You did a great job of turning out the vote among spoiled brats and uneducated masses who can barely read "Obama"! Good luck blaming Bush for four more years!

Ultimately, Sandy and Christie screwed over Romney. Take those out of the equation, and Romney wins. I will work my butt off to ensure Christie is humiliated if he decides to run for president. He is from New Jersey, so I am sure it will not be tough to dig up the dirt. Romney's Mormonism also hurt among certain demographics, but it was not decisive nor would it have been had Sandy/Christie never happened.

As some of you may know, I have a sick relative abroad whom I am back to taking care of. It really saddens me to say this, but I am not sure if America is worth going back to down the road after the cancer and Alzheimer's runs its course. Indeed, it may be time to write-off America. Our days as a superpower are heading to an end. It is probably just a matter of time before the rest of the world realizes this, and after that happens obviously the proverbial sh*t hits the fan. I personally sold off all of my American assets yesterday except some real estate in the southwest, some grocery chain stocks, my TIPS and some cash. In five or ten years, and I am dead serious, we'll be lucky if most of America does not resemble a hybrid of Detroit's ghettos and Tijuana. But liberal policies work great! We just need most of America to be more like California and Illinois! *shakes head*

I am a man of my word, so my signature will be updated shortly after Badger provides the details...

God help America...

Both those states have a higher GDP per capita than the US average, I don't see why this would be so bad

They will go bankrupt. It is a matter of when, not if.

Everybody in the Romney camp is well aware of the consequences of sharing a party with idiots such as the bozos from Missouri and Indiana who blew guaranteed seats in the Senate. People like that are finished. The GOP will never have another statewide candidate who openly voices such stupidity.

GOP will do a better job with Hispanics next time. Rubio will run for president, and if he falters he will be the running mate. Nobody in America can better connect with Hispanics who came to America for freedom and opportunity, not those who still believe in Chavez, et al. (they can take that garbage back to South/Central America, thank you very much).

Democrats now own the deficits, the debt and the economy. Blaming Bush for four more years is not going to save you in the next two elections. Boehner will compromise on anything other than taxes, so you better provide some reasonable ideas both sides can work on or you're definitely screwed. Be like Clinton when he worked with Gingrich, or be a lame duck like Bush in his last two years...

Can we hold you to that?

I can assure you that no statewide candidate will ever produce such a catastrophic gaffe with respect to answering questions about abortion.

The views of Chavez, et al. are diametrically opposed to the Constitution and all it stands for. Immigrants who seek freedom and opportunity are welcome; those who seek to bring communism into America are enemies of the Constitution.

Make no mistake about it: We are still at war with the parasitic ideas of communism. Communist ideals are perhaps the gravest threat to America other than terrorism.

Good thing people like Politico are in charge of the Republican Party. I was worried they'd come to their senses and shift their positions and rhetoric so they could be competitive in presidential elections again! But no, the same right-wing garbage, with just a hint of racism. Love it!

Hispanics who seek freedom and opportunity are embraced by the GOP. Those who bow to Chavez, Guevara and Castro are enemies of freedom and opportunity, the basis of America.

Academia is overrun with communists, closeted or otherwise. Many cohorts of various backgrounds have essentially been brainwashed as a result. It's time for numerous groups to start cracking down on those who are cracking down on America with their dangerous ideology that is destroying the very fabric of society. We know what they are up to. Even Democrats like me who love America know the score. We love America, and will not allow communists to destroy it. It is past the point of saying, "bite the hand that feeds you at your own peril." If something cannot go on forever, it will stop.

That's all, ladies and gentlemen.

Are you seriously trying to gin up a third Red Scare? That would be funny if it weren't so sad.

EDIT: While we're at it, how dare somebody who suggests 'writing off America' in the thread title and OP impugn anybody else's patriotism? I'm serious. How dare you, you sniveling fifth-column mammonist?

The only fifth column in America today is located in the hallowed halls of academia. Communists in academia have been given too much leeway since the end of the Soviet Union. No more. As soon as the political pendulum swings back towards the party of freedom and opportunity, this nonsense will be brought to light. Careers will be destroyed and rightfully so since people employed at public institutions on taxpayers' dollars should not be welcome to preach values that are diametrically opposed to the public interest and all America stands for. Of course, these communists will be free to preach their garbage from the unemployment line. They will be free to seek employment abroad, too. Perhaps Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea or China will take them in.

Mark my words: All of the money that went into trying to unseat Obama will now go into this effort, both covertly and overtly, because it is abundantly clear that this is the only way to potentially save America from destruction from within.

Obviously I am the last person on the planet who wants to say it may be time to write-off America, but I am a realist. There may be time left to change course, but it is not looking good. More than anybody, we can thank the communists in academia and the NEA for creating this tragedy of biblical proportions.

Guy, your progeny must be defective if they're swayed by someone that easily.

They are weak. The NEA conditions them that way before their brains fully develop, and that is the end for the weakest. For the more intelligent ones, communists in academia finalize the brainwashing process for all but the strongest and those brought up on decent American values.

This phenomenon is organic yet real. If something cannot go on forever, it will stop. One way or another, this will stop because it cannot go on forever.

Politico, I don't understand you. I really don't. You say that you dislike Obama and everything he does so much, yet you still say you are a Democrat (though I don't know why, because you sound like a partisan conservative to me). And correct me if I'm wrong, but you were a Hillary supporter before, right? You realize that on the issues, they agreed basically on everything? The most difference I've heard from you regarding them is things like how she had more "balls" and other things of that sort, which is a pretty weak argument. Honestly, I think she'd have governed almost identically to Obama.

Also, you supported Romney, who based on his record in Massachusetts, was very moderate. As Governor he would've lined up with many of Obama's positions as well, from things regarding healthcare to climate change to stimulus spending. And assuming you were a supporter of his record, then as President, he wouldn't have been too radically different from the way Obama has governed over the last few years. Maybe he would've been more effective as a President than Obama at running things, which I agree, but that is not the angle you seem to be coming from.

If you bought into the platform he supported this election, running as someone who was "severely conservative"(neoconservative foreign policy, very conservative economic policy, conservative social policy), fair enough. But I still don't see how someone who claims to still be a Democrat that supported Hillary Clinton could back the Republican message of 2012.

I am not going to go into detail, but my story is much like Sheldon Adelson's and many more:

This process will be done the right way. We're gonna rout out the communists without looking like Chicken Littles. We'll even use liberal tools to get the job done (e.g., leaked audio recordings of the anonymous variety brought to the world by applications on smart phones, social media, etc.). These communists are destroying America from within.

Do you think Obama is a communist or has communist sympathies, Politico?

I suspect that there are Godless communists within his campaign and inner circle, and there were certainly communists who funded his campaign and volunteered for him. I also suspect Obama sympathizes with some communist notions (e.g., "from each according to their ability to each according to their need"), but I do not believe he is a communist per se. I think he is a good man, a family man, who is being used by some radical elements.

Then the basis of every other liberal Democracy is Communism. You know, the ones with higher living standards, living wages and health outcomes.

This is a fine example of the type of communist brainwashing I am talking about, ladies and gentlemen.

You obviously don't know what communism is, little man.

The world will know communism and its supporters after audio recordings start leaking on social media.

The days of Marxists spouting their garbage under the employment of public universities, bought and paid for by taxpayers' dollars, is coming to an end. When we are through with them, there will be nothing left. Their propaganda machine is going to be crushed. These communists will be free to speak their mind from the unemployment line, or free to seek employment in Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, etc.

Awww... you've really gone off the deep end haven't you?

To use an appropriate quote "in your guts, you know he's nuts"

The open communists and crypto-communists are out there, largely concentrated in academia. You know I am right. Do not even try to deny it for a minute.

What the hell do you think Occupy Wall Street was really about?

It's just a matter of time before a majority connects the dots, for Christ's sakes. Once that happens, there will be hell to pay.

This is not performance art. Like many Americans, I am mad as hell and I am not going to take this anymore.

We'll personally destroy the communists for what they have done to America. They may yet get their wish of the destruction of America, but they will go down first.

Oh, it's really not a meltdown.  I was actually stupidly bored enough this evening to look at a little of Politico's posting history.  If he is entirely sincere in what he says, he converted from "Keynes" to "Friedman" sometime between 2008 and 2011,

How did you come to this conclusion? I have shifted slightly further right on economic issues, but I was never a Keynesian leftist in any sense except, perhaps, for a temporary love affair with environmentalism circa 2006-2009 (and I am still a moderate on the environment, especially relative to most Republicans).

I was wrong about a few things in 2008. Many remember my ridiculous EC forecast near the end of 2008 (I still believe it would have held had Obama been white). Another example where I was wrong:

I believe that comparing Obama and his supporters to Guevara and his supporters is insinuating that Obama and his supporters do not fully back American ideals, which is not true. Obama and his supporters love America and all that stands for, including its system of democratic capitalism. Neither Obama nor his supporters are communists/socialists like Guevara, et al.

A more apt, patriotic and less divisive question would be whether or not Obama is becoming the new JFK of his generation (i.e., a once-in-a-generation charismatic candidate of change). I think the answer is clearly a resounding yes. Clearly no candidate since Ronald Reagan has garnered such an enormous amount of popularity prior to becoming president.

I was also right about a few things in 2008. For example:

If McCain loses, Romney will be the nominee in 2012. They'll beg David Petraeus to be his running mate. Obama/Biden would likely win re-election no matter who the Republicans nominate, especially if the GOP takes back the House in 2011.

Politico,

Losing an election is horrible. I know that very well and had the same week as all the other Romney supporters who are mourning the state and perceived future of the nation, albeit for rather different reasons (and I happened to believe America is more fatally ill from my perspective than it is from yours).

But we vote in elections for the politicians that we think will improve our lives. But no matter who wins you still have to get out of bed the next morning and go through life to the best of your ability in work/personal relationships/etc. We have a habit in our political analysis to think that winning alone will cure our ills. But it matters much more what we do with our lives than who wins, or even who we vote for. We can never forget that and allow ourselves to be broken and destroyed by losing an election when the whole point of supporting the candidate we did was that we believed his victory would make life better than it is under President Obama. If President Obama wants to destroy my life, he'll have to do that himself; I won't do it for him. I think somewhere deep down you know that to be true too.

I also urge you not to write off America just yet. Yes, the future sucks and it will only get worse, I have no hope for a government or a society that will get better for the rest of my life, and on and on. In your view this is what you consider to be socialism and for me it's the destruction of morality that used to be observed in this country. I look forward to many long years of being surrounded by a hippie free-love sex culture where all politicians make ads telling people voting for them is like having sex Wink That's how I read the "forward" slogan. For you, an increased reliance on the government is likely in store for years to come. But by writing off America, we would also be writing off all the faceless people who haven't even been born yet. They will grow up in a very different America than the one we grew up in, yes that's true. But just because they came from a background we each view as less optimal, yours with the government and mine with looser morals, doesn't mean every person born later can be written off as a lost cause. But writing off America that's what we'd be doing. Many people who come after us may turn out to be horrible, immoral from my perspective and "welfare queens" from yours. In fact it's pretty likely there will be many who could fit into both categories. But they deserve a chance to make that choice, not us.

Thank you for the thoughtful post.

I must stress that I do not want to write-off America, but there are cold, hard economic realities we cannot simply ignore or wish away. The election has created an outcome that will likely lead to the end of America's days as a superpower unless Obama unexpectedly swings far to the right and embraces much of what Romney stood for. If we run $1 trillion deficits for four more years, we're completely and utterly finished the minute the rest of the world recognizes that we're declining within. It will be especially brutal if they simultaneously come to the conclusion we're incapable of meeting our debt obligations...

The ONLY thing keeping us afloat right now is the fact that the greenback is the world's reserve currency, and most oil is traded in USD. And who can guarantee that will continue to be the case if the next four years look like the last four years?

Aye-aye, Cap'n Ahab.

Let me just ask you this, pursuant to the Red-baiting and talk of personally destroying people. Politico, do you, in fact, believe in freedom of speech?

I believe in freedom of speech. Like I said, these professors will be free to speak their mind from the unemployment line. Unlike in communist nations, they will also be free to emigrate.

That said, the days of taxpayers footing the bill for Marxist ideology/brainwashing are coming to an end. Everybody carries a smart phone in their pocket that is capable of recording this rubbish. Everybody is capable of anonymously uploading this garbage, too. There will be coordinated covert efforts to bring to light what is happening. Taxpayers are going to be repulsed to learn what some people in academia have been doing to America's youth the last couple of decades. Heads will roll in the figurative sense. If something cannot go on forever, it will stop. This organic, yet uncoordinated, brainwashing cannot go on forever therefore it will stop.

America is the land of freedom and opportunity, not the land of communist slavery and stagnation.

Unfortunately, Politico is completely right. I do think a Communist threat is alive and well. It is pervasive, not only in academia, but the business world, in politics, in the military. I would not be surprised if the whole scandal with Gen. Petraeus is the official coverup of a communist power play.

Believe it or not, this country has been overrun by Communists, Socialists, and Anarchists, but this time they've truly inflitrated the highest levels of academia and government. One should only look here from my view point in the Kremlin on the Hudson, and see the Communism is truly rampant amongst the student body and the faculty, that I would say some two thirds of my peers adhere to either Communism, Socialism, or Anarchism. The economics department is perhaps the only bulwark of common sense. I would not be surprised, ludicrous as it sounds, that the large amount of Ivy Leaguers in the business world today are in fact a mass infiltration, a third column designed to collectivize and overthrow it once the signal for Revolution is given. It is a long time coming, let us not forget that the red flag itself flew over Morningside Heights in 1967. Where did these radicals go? Let us also not forget that our very Attorney General, Eric Holder, was one of the hostage takers in 1967!!

Let us not underestimate the detrimental value of the defeatists and the cosmopolitans, those who wish to see the acendance of Socialistic states like China and Russia, people, again who seem perfectly normal and esteemed, like Fareed Zakaria the plagiarist and Thomas Friedman, who preach that we should just live with the rise of China. These people have infltrated our society and esteemed institutions like the Council on Foreign Relations. I have been there! I have seen those defeatist Communists! So sadly the threat is very real, and omnipresent in all sectors in our society. We need a national reaction to flush them out. We should be greatful to Poltico for speaking out.

Yes, we need a national enema. Eventually the next Ronald Reagan will appear to rid us of those who seek to destroy America. There will be hell to pay.

Politico, I don't appreciate how you obviously believe this tripe with all your heart. I don't like that about you.

I am not interested in coddling communists. There is no shortage of communists in America, regardless of whether many communists self-identify. Simfan knows it, I know it, you know it, and everybody else knows it. It is time to start discussing what is really happening in America, particularly in the hallowed halls of educational establishments across the country. Tens of millions of minds have been destroyed by the work of these communists, and the nation will not survive if we do not change course...

And, well, there are communists and then there are communists, but you wouldn't know anything about that.

The days of differentiating are over.
