Doubtful he would announce this while Newark is still reeling from Sandy, but December is still a ways off I suppose.

Christie is probably unbeatable after Sandy.

Bad move; he'll lose even though he's popular. He should run in 2014; Lautenberg's a dinosaur and will almost certainly retire.

Nice misleading title Olawak -Cory Booker is only thinking about challenging Governor Chris Christie.  He hasn't actually decided to do it yet.

And I hope he ultimately doesn't.

Expect some poll numbers to come out soon, numbers that'll keep him from running.

Don't see it happening.

However, he's the hands down favorite if Christie pulls a Romney and doesn't run for re-election.

Agreed. Unless a reputable pollster finds Christie under 50% and Booker within ~5 points, he'll be smart and wait to enter the Senate in 2014.

Christie's popular and Romney lost.  I hope he doesn't do this.

After Sandy, I'm putting my money on Christie being all but undefeatable, even by a man of Booker's standing.

Given the concerns about his age, Booker could and would primary him.

That could happen, though I personally think you're underestimating Lautenberg. But he won't voluntarily retire. He will be removed from office either by the people or by Yama.

Booker's the Democrat's best shot, and he could pull an Elizabeth Warren. But he would be the underdog in a blue state, and that might hurt his opportunities for a later bid.

Plus, Frank Lautenberg is going to be Ninety in 2014. So an open senate seat is a possibility, as is a primary challenge.

If the party leaders were smart, they would force out Lautenberg either way, as the state does not gain from having a ninety-something Senator. And they would promise Booker the Senate nomination in the event he loses the gubernatorial bid, as he remains their most impressive politician in the state.

Christie isn't unbeatable, but I presume Booker will hold the trench until Lautenberg dies and then shoot for that.

The Democrats should just give Christie a sacrificial lamb at this point. Even I've approved of the guy lately...

I've asked this before, but can anyone give me some insight into why Lautenberg doesn't retire already?  I mean, he already retired once.  If he didn't love the Senate so much that he wanted to die there back in 2000, why is he now so keen to spend the rest of his life there?

He says that he hated retirement and that's why he returned to the senate and intends to stay there as long as he can.

It just says he's considering it, and I don't think any Dems ever had much chance of beating Christie anyway.

I'm still pissed at Booker for the Bain comments from the Spring. And then he didn't have the balls to stand by his comments and walked them back. I hope Christie buries him.

After the Republican declarations about Romney being unbeatable, they should be a little more cautious about declaring any races as being over. That said, I don't think Booker will run next year.

Only a select few on this forum said Romney was unbeatable.

No- let there be bad polling numbers but he runs anyway. It will be wonderful to cut down a rising democratic star Cheesy
