I think of it as cold and hellish.  There's not much that makes it stand out from other New England states, either.

I drove through Connecticut on the way to Maine and found it beautiful. Hartford reminded me a lot of Philadelphia at least on an aesthetic level. It was amazing.

Rhode Island - FS (Family Guy)
Vermont - very very very FS (social-democratic senator)

I still don't understand the disdain for Connecticut.

Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont: Massive Freedom States.
Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island: Neutral, lean Freedom States.

New England as a whole is generally a massive Freedom Region.

Of all the places I've been to in the USA, I felt by far the most at home in New England.

New Hampshire will be a much better state once it actually practices what it preaches.

They're all great states - I've had memorable and meaningful experiences with the people, the natural environment, the culture of every one. I love New England, and I'm grateful to have been born and raised here. I have to wonder if I could feel at home anywhere else.

All of them fit into the category of "Freedom State", whatever that means. But I think I would rank them as follows:

1. Connecticut
2. Vermont
3. Massachusetts
4. New Hampshire
5. Maine
6. Rhode Island
