I ask this for future scenarios including the upcoming 2016 which will come soon. I also ask this to see whether I should wait for the new engine scenario editor and remake my current scenarios to format the new engine or to create them still in the old format and keep going in the 2008 edition ignoring the new game.

I am not a fan of the 2012 version. I think it's far too complex and takes way too long to play. I enjoyed 2008 because I could sit down and finish a game in a couple of hours. This new version just has way too many bells and whistles. The sheer scope of it is kind of ridiculous.

Is there any way to edit candidates on the 2012/2016 scenario? I just got it the other day, and can't seem to figure it out.

Not really, but I believe they will release the candidate editor pretty soon... With some luck, they might even release something like Campaigns Forever so we can create more scenarios besides 1912, 2012 and 2016.

08 engine is much more enjoyable and makes for a smoother game, 12 is too complicated, like a previous poster said, 08 you can sit down and play and be a simple or as wonkish as you like.  Plus the scenarios and the rest are easier to pop in and play.
