With the Democrats having held the White House for the last eight years under President Van Buren, they now search for someone to succeed him and lead them to victory in 1848. While the President considered seeking a third term, he interpreted the party as too hostile to him after his stances against the expansion of slavery and withdrew his name from consideration. This leaves potential successors such as Vice President Tyler and Secretary of State Buchanan scrambling for the nomination.

Ugh. A bunch of slavocrats, dilettants, and brave but politically ambiguous military officers. Why can't I vote for Van Buren's third term again?

Woodbury seems the best of this bunch, and Calhoun must be stopped.
