Brown, D-CA  60-32

If he were 25 years younger, he would be much of the discussion for the Presidency.

44% approval is marginal for getting re-elected, according to Nate Silver. Unite the opposition Democratic and Independent opposition and let the Constitution Party cut even a little into Parnell's support and Parnell could lose.

Colorado voters approve 52 - 39 percent of the job Gov. John Hickenlooper is doing and give him comfortable leads over possible Republican challengers, but are divided 45 - 45 percent on whether he deserves reelection this November, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This is the first registered voter survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University in which Gov. Hickenlooper's approval rating tops 50 percent. There is a wide gender gap as women approve 60 - 29 percent while among men 44 percent approve and 48 percent disapprove. Approval is 84 - 6 percent among Democrats, but Republicans disapprove 63 - 28 percent. Independent voters are divided as 45 percent approve and 46 percent disapprove.

Hickenlooper tops possible Republican challengers:

    48 - 39 percent over former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo;
    46 - 40 percent over Secretary of State Scott Gessler;
    47 - 37 percent over State Sen. Greg Brophy;
    47 - 38 percent over State Sen. Mike Kopp.

First poll of Virginia (McAuliffe, D-VA)

A new Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey finds that 51% of Likely Virginia Voters at least somewhat approve of McAuliffe’s job performance, with 24% who Strongly Approve. Thirty-six percent (36%) disapprove of how the governor is performing, including 18% who Strongly Disapprove. Fourteen percent (14%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Minnesota (Mason-Dixon)

Gov. Mark Dayton heads into re-election with the highest job approval rating of his term, according to a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll.

The poll found that 58 percent of Minnesotans think Dayton is doing a good job as governor, with 29 percent saying they disapprove. Those numbers come after the governor orchestrated an income tax increase on the wealthy and after the troubled rollout of the state’s health care exchange that opponents hoped would diminish his popularity.

TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie has called the George Washington Bridge scandal an obsession of the press that the public doesn’t care about, but two polls released today show the ordeal continues to erode his political support and public image.

One survey, the Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll, showed Christie’s popularity at an all-time low after dropping 20 percentage points since November.

What’s more, 41 percent of voters surveyed said they approved of Christie’s job performance and 44 percent disapproved — the first time the poll has shown results to be more critical than supportive of the Republican governor since he took office in January 2010.

Very good for a Republican in a D state.  Her leads over potential Democratic challengers are as low as 5%., which is usually small for an incumbent. But it is New Mexico, so that is very good. If she can avoid controversies she will be OK in November.

Texas: Rick Perry (PPP)

One thing that may be working to Abbott's benefit is that for the first time ever in PPP's Texas polling Rick Perry has a positive approval rating, with 48% of voters approving of him to 44% who disapprove. Perry's net approval has improved 18 points from where it was 2 years ago at this time in the wake of his failed Presidential bid, when only 39% of voters gave him good marks with 53% disapproving. - See more at: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2014/04/republicans-lead-in-texas.html#sthash.uhSSUq2C.dpuf

No conclusion on Jindal as I don't see a disapproval rate. Otherwise, a 68% approval rate means that disapproval is at most 32%.

This is bad news for Republican governors and gubernatorial candidates in the area of their current core strength.

Deal  up 44-43 in Georgia (Atlanta Journal-Constitution).

A poll showing his approval in the 50s looks like a misprint.

Vulnerable. Incumbents usually gain 6% in vote share from early approval ratings. He has potential scandals involving the 2010 election:

How much, if anything, have you heard or read about the case of former director of the state ethics commission, Stacey Kalberman, who a Fulton County jury ruled was forced from her job for her investigation into Governor Deal's 2010 election campaign -- Have you heard a lot, a little, or nothing at all?

12% a lot
40% a little
48% not at all

As you may know, a Fulton County jury ruled that Ethics Commission Director Kalberman was forced from her job for aggressively investigating Governor Deal's 2010 election campaign. Deal's administration has maintained the Governor's Office had nothing to do with her being forced from her job. From what you have heard or read, do you think Stacy Kalberman was forced out because she was investigating the Governor's Office, or not?

58% forced out
20% not forced out
22% don't know/not applicable

Do you believe Governor Deal was involved, or not?

71% Yes, Deal involved
16% No, Deal not involved
13% don't know/not applicable

Behind, yellow the colors to green for Republicans  and orange for Democrats. Dark shades of orange are really brown.  Ties are yellow.

White is for a non-partisan Governor, independent Governor, no Governor, or any transition to a new one (death, resignation, disqualification, impeachment and removal, defeat, or not campaigning for re-election).
