What impact do you think there would've been on the race? Would Hispanic voters be more attracted to the ticket? Would the base have been angry over the nomination of a prochoice VP? Would it have been a better choice than Ryan or worse?

Discuss.

Any help he'd be in NV/NM/CO/AZ would've been balanced by anger by social conservatives in OH/PA/VA/NC who would've preferred a Santorum-esque candidate anyway.

They would vote for Obama because.........

As for turnout, if faced with the choice between a pro-choicer and an extreme pro-choicer then........

But he's the VP nominee, not the president. Why should one issue like abortion be a deal breaker when choosing a VP?

No no, I'm saying that they'd simply just not turn out.

Because this is the Republican Party.

I don't know. I know Rubio won among both Cubans and non-Cuban Hispanics in his 2010 race, though.

Here's a 2010 report from Pew.

The base would've stayed home even more than they did now. It would've been McCain's dalliance with Lieberman and Ridge all over again. Any gains he made with moderates would've been cancelled out by lost turnout. As for Hispanics- not as long as Romney sounded like he wanted to deport grandmothers, to quote Gingrich and Rubio. No VP could've done anything to save Romney and Boston from themselves, assuming the campaign otherwise played out similarly. A D+6 turnout can't be fixed with a VP pick.
