Kansas has now certified its results, which is noteworthy because Romney actually did not get above 60% (final result 59.7-37.9). That gives me an extra point for my prediction. Smiley

Crap! For some reason Nate thought Romney would break 60% in KS but not in NE...

How much longer will it take for the final count to be in?

In about 2 weeks, when NY certifies their result.

Absolute "final" numbers ? Probably at some point in 2013, when they find and add votes that were found in some garbage cans or warehouses ...

According to Wasserman, Utah is final.  It had the biggest % swing to Romney (10.1) and the second highest numerical vote increase vs McCain's number in 2008--an increase of 144,570 votes (Wisconsin had the biggest increase 148,473).

This is truly beyond pathetic. Not even a Fourth-World country would still be counting votes.

So I'm guessing there aren't enough votes left for Obama to hit or pass 51.00% outright?

That and whether NY will swing to Obama (vs. 2008) are the two major things I'm still wondering about.

I'm still interested in the remaining Ohio votes. Obama now leads Romney by 2.95, I hope we can increase it to at least 3.5.

From what I've read, it looks like he will get to 51%. There are supposedly nearly 1 million ballots left in NY, apparently mostly in NYC.

Well thanks to all the vote-by-mail, encouraged mostly by Democrats, it takes forever.  If 90% of voters did so on Election Day at their precinct, we'd be done

Vote-by-mail is not the problem itself. There could be a requirement of course that all the mail ballots have to be at the county election commission by election day poll closing time. Otherwise they are rejected and not counted, period.

Yeah, mail delivery is an issue here.

The other bigger one is all those provisional ballots that need to be checked and triplechecked - which exist only because the departments keeping voter lists are amateurishly run ad underfunded. The vast majority of these votes would have been counted on election day otherwise.

There should be enough left in NY State for Obama to hit 51.00% (he has 50.94 right now)

So, a likely end result is probably 51.1 to 47.2

Is Rhode Island done? That's another one that's so close to swinging to Obama...

Barack Obama wins Fresno county. He also passes Romney by over 3 million votes in California. Check out the latest return from Fresno County. Santa Cruz county also made a final update.

This voting of counts, continues with no end in sight; it's beyond a joke, like the friggin energizer bunny, it keeps on going and going: Obama's margin in Ohio is 107,000 and is going to stay at that number; Cuyahoga county is done; so 2.95% or 3.5% is pretty much academic, Obama stays at 107,000 in the Buckeye State.

I don't think you have the latest numbers in Ohio. The latest numbers have Obama up by just under 165,000 (which is a 2.95% margin). Based on what's left, 3.5% won't happen, but 3% could since heavily Democratic Mahoning County has yet to certify its result.

Romney actually did better than many expected in Ohio while doing much worse than expected in other states (Iowa, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, etc). Ohio will remain a swing state for quite some time.

I'm currently at:

O: 65,435,746 50.93 (-4,063,682)
R: 60,764,885 47.29 (+814,562)

My calculation has as many write in votes included as I could find

All but NE, WV, TN, TX, PA, CO, NM, NJ, NY, CA being official

Virginia looks like the bellwether (or closest to it) for the second straight election, as it will produce almost exactly the margin of victory for Obama as his nationwide popular vote (around 3.7-4.0%).

Colorado was the tipping point state that gave Obama his 270th EV in 2008, it looks like they will retain their tipping point status. For a long time, it looked like Pennsylvania would be the tipping point state, but Colorado is edging PA out by a couple hundredths of a percent
