The Wall Street Journal takes a long look at Brian Schweitzer.  Well worth a read:

Manchin is "leaving all of his options open."

I can't conceive of any possible way that Manchin gets the Democratic nomination.

Salon's Steve Kornacki did a piece on this four years ago. Fairly interesting read.

There's just no way. Even Hillary seems like a liberal compared to him.

The problem is that of the 30-35% that don't want Hillary, they're split down the middle between the archaic conservadems who want someone like Manchin who is to the right of Hillary, and the leftists who want a Bernie Sanders. Uniting this group would be next to impossible, and even if it was united it still wouldn't be enough.

Not at all. It's all about perception. Somebody like Schweitzer (governor of a Western state+guns) or Webb (Reagan's Secretary of the Navy) could run, with the background to attract conservadems and some of the policy positions to get leftists.

The Fix singles out some passages from Hillary's authors notes on her new book. Among others:

Posting this here because her health is the biggest question on whether she runs or not:

Hillary in January... Goodness gracious, look at the difference in skin color between her and Bill. He looks like he has a tan... she is ghost white. Not good.

Hillary in April... much better, but not sure if it's just the makeup. I hope she's getting her fill of time outdoors.

Hillary in May.

You know, more than anything else this fixation on Hillary's health reminds me of a certain Russian from back in the day. This is how he put those doubts to rest:

Also, a bit further afield (in more ways than one) but I couldn't resist:

He was 72.

Schweitzer hasn't really made a lot of noise recently, save that Wall Street Journal interview, but you should really watch this ~7 minute interview he has with Chris Matthews on Hardball:

http://www.msnbc.com/hardball/watch/clintons-populist-2016-challenger-263732803601

Schweitzer immediately launches into a pitch on his fitness for national office, and won't stop talking about how great his record as governor was, and how he even has foreign policy experience given all the time he spent overseas.  He also says that it'll be better for the Democratic Party if Hillary Clinton has competition for the nomination.

OTOH, he says that he's run the idea of running for president by his family, and none of them think it's a good idea.  So he's undecided for now.

Jindal's flip-flop on Common Core. Walker also flip-flopped on it, though less blatantly.

Rubio to campaign for Ernst Monday.

Namely, Christie, Cruz, Huckabee, Jindal, Paul, Rubio, Ryan, and Santorum.

In other news, Klobuchar is attending a "Minnesotans Ready for Hillary" fundraiser:

Key word is "try", but as noted here:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=189532.0

there's no reason to think that the courts would allow this, given the current state of Kentucky law.
