I was under the impression he's already stated if he ran it would be as a Democrat.

It would make the most sense, if he runs as an Independent he could spoil the election for the Democrats and hand it to the Pubs. Bernie is no egomaniac like Ralph Nader, I don't think he would risk that.

No.  He's consistently said that he's undecided as to whether he would run as a Democrat or an Indy.  But he's also said that he doesn't want to be a "spoiler", which strongly suggests that he'd run as a Dem.
