Our 43rd President is going to have one of the oddest post-presidencies ever, and we'll likely be hearing about it for decades to come.

George W. Bush, the Howard Hughes of the 21st century.  How long until he gets to the "jars of his own urine around the room" level?

This sounds rather pathetic, I won't lie.

I must say I think I am inclined to Bush apologism.

Well, he vowed, as I recall, not to spend his ex-presidency "like Clinton," hanging around the halls of the UN and such.  And it is something of a Bush family tradition to disengage from politics after one's term of elected service is up, except for notable charitable causes in cases of emergency.  Bush has been doing some advocacy with his new association too, though I forget what it's called.  But I am somewhat surprised to hear that he "doesn't like people, never has."  I don't know whether that's actually true or not, it might just be an aid's wayward impression or something.  But if it is true, all I can say is that Bush could really put on an act, as I would never have guessed that he doesn't like people in general.

The Bush tradition is to become a very highly paid speaker to business groups. Clinton did that too, but also the Clinton initiative.

I'd kind of like to see them too. But then again he probably wants to keep them private unless he's so good he could be a professional since then we'll get a barrage of "OMG BUSH SUXX AT PAINTING TOO!!!!" comments.

Learn to take a joke, OK? Smiley

Here's another one:
Well, I'd rather him paint them than strap them to the roof of his car.

I kind of feel sorry for him now, though he was still a terrible, terrible president and his legacy is still damaging the country.

I'm of the opinion that Bush's entire shtick was an act. From the Crawford Ranch to the lacking of intelligence, it was all an act.

If true, he was an all-star actor.  Even his enemies raved over his engaging personality.  You don't get elected to the White House twice without a lot of people personally liking you.

I have a positive opinion of Bush, which I suppose makes me an apologist. But, yeah, he seems to be content to just slide into the back-background and allow everyone to forget about him. He's approaching the point where an opeboist revolution might forget to guillotine him.

Dubya should rather root in jail, so there's no reason to feel sorry for him.

His post-presidency should be the model for all others that will leave office.....sit down and shut up.
