Say that the Chappaquiddick incident had never happened, and now it doesn't come to bite Teddy in the @$$.  So he ends up beating Carter for the Democratic nomination, and the Republican primary goes the same as RL.  Who wins, Kennedy or Reagan, and by what margin?

Reagan. Even without Chap Kennedy still had drinking and marital issues, plus ideological ones. Moderates don't like him. Teddy's the worst brother to be selling to Reagan Democrats and Southerners.

I vote Reagan, but Kennedy wins in a landslide simply because of his last name.

"Teddy/Lloyd Bentsen or some southerner" 270
"Reagan/Herbert Walker" 268 clear Americans wanted Teddy over Carter in the primary but with help of the Daleys and with ultra liberal Mondale on the ticket Carter was able to win.
