Not that it matters, but I found it rather surprising. The Obama camp's attack on Romney was less that and more that he was far-right on abortion/Planned Parenthood.

Bill Clinton told him to attack Romney for being too conservative instead of being a flip-flopper.

It wasn't really necessary for Obama, since the electorate was already fully aware of Mitten's flip-flopping.

Obama flip-flops too: Gay Marriage(debatable ok), Wars, Individual Health Care Mandate, and Tax Cuts. He is just as much as a flip-flopper as Romney is.

Because that would open Obama up to the retaliatory "Obama flip-flopped" ad, which would be just as accurate.

Perhaps, but I don't think attacking Obama's flooping would play nicely with the GOP "Obama is a radical socialist hurr durr" narrative.

They didn't seem too concerned with consistency any way.

He certainly went after Romney for flip flopping on the auto bailout.

Romney didn't flip-flop on the Auto Bailout. Romney flipped on Libya I think and immigration policy.

This. President Clinton told them that people liked flip-flippers as long as they were on their side of the issue. It actually helped him with indies.

He lost indies by 5% though.

He probably would have lost them by much more.

I remember a news story during the campaign how the obama campaign early on had the choice of attacking romney either as an extremist or a flip-flopper, and chose the former. The feeling was it might inadvertantly reassure undecideds that Romney was a pragmatist who would ultimately "do the right thing" once in office, and besides "all politicians switch positions" voters believe (rightly).

Personally, I believe one can attack a candidate as a flip-flopper AND an extremist. Bush did so very effectively to kerry.

Because if you're getting hit on a weak economy, and you know that the economy is going to be the number one issue, you have to counter-punch on the economy.  That's why they decided that the negative Bain Capital and opposition to the auto-bailouts would be much more effective.  And they were right.

I actually read a great article about this a while back; I'm not sure what thing it was in. They were split on Bain or flip-flopping, and Bain tested better.

They didn't need to once that 47 percent video hit the air waves.
