Since JFK we have never had a president from the state of Massachusetts, but we've had three nominees from the state. All were defeated partly due to their popular image of being elitist and out of touch. Is this something that just happens to be unique to each candidate, or is it the Massachusetts label that has harmed them?
Is the average voter prejudiced towards Massachusetts, in that we think everyone there is either wealthy, too smart for their own good, or dangerously removed from the everyday problems of Americans? I've been to Mass a few times and the people there certainly seem as average as they do in any other state, but maybe that's not how most of us think.
