While in something like a list of U.S. Presidential Elections I'd like to go back to the very beginning, New York has too large a history with too many elections to do that, and I have too little knowledge to make up for that. With that given, I'll settle with just doing 1938-onward, the first off-year election for Governor for a four year term.

Keep in mind that the person voting here is me as I am now. Had I been in the socio-economic position of a Catholic person in the 1930's, I might be voting very differently.

1938: District Attorney Thomas Dewey (R)
1942: District Attorney Thomas Dewey (R)
1946: Governor Thomas Dewey (R)
1950: Governor Thomas Dewey (R)
1954: Senator Irving M. Ives (R)
1958: Former Deputy Secretary of H.E.W. Nelson A. Rockefeller (R)
1962: David H. Jaquith (C)
1966: Paul Adams (C)
1970: Paul Adams (C)
1974: Governor Malcolm Wilson (R)

Hard to say.  Assuming my view then would be largely the same as they are now:

1942: Thomas E. Dewey (R)
1946: Thomas E. Dewey (R)
1950: Thomas E. Dewey (R)
1954: Irving M. Ives (R)
1958: Nelson A. Rockefeller (R)
1962: Nelson A. Rockefeller (R)
1966: Nelson A. Rockefeller (R)
1970: Nelson A. Rockefeller (R)
1974: Malcolm Wilson (R)
1978: Perry Duryea (R)
1982: Lewis Lehrman (R)
1986: Andrew O'Rourke (R)
1990: Pierre Rinfret (R)
1994: George Pataki (R)
1998: George Pataki (R)
2002: George Pataki (R)
2006: John Faso (R)
2010: Carl Paladino (R) (Although Jimmy McMillan would be very tempting.)
