I was reading that Stephen Baldwin might challenge his brother if Alec runs. How awesome would a Baldwin vs Baldwin race be? Grin

Obviously, NY politics is usually very interesting (the NY Senate is probably the best legislative chamber in the US in terms of sheer entertainment value), but this is shaping up to be an easy romp for Christine Quinn, who is basically Bloombo's appointed heir. I suppose some prefer a Democrat to an independent-endorsed- by-Repyblicans, but there will be no policy difference.

In all likelihood, it will be Christine Quinn vs. Ray Kelly. Depending on the economic climate, Kelly should be a narrow frontrunner in that matchup.

lol.

Christine Quinn is going to have this handed to her on a silver platter. None of the serious Democratic candidates will challenge her in a primary because they'd lose. She has all the institutional backing. Ray Kelly also won't run; he'd get demolished. Bloomberg and Giuliani were competitive because they could win the liberal white vote. Ray Kelly isn't remotely competitive in Park Slope or the Upper West Side, and Christine Quinn is a much better fit for those areas than previous Democratic candidates were.

My vote (in the primary and the general) goes to whoever pledges to keep on the FF in my signature.

If nobody wants her, and it looks like nobody does at the moment, then I'm not quite sure what I'll do.

Not sure if this has any legitimacy to it, but if Tony Danza runs I'll probably support him. Or Kelsey Grammar, if he runs.

I don't know about Tony Danza being a politician. I like the guy as an actor though.

Baldwin is not running. He likes de Blasio. He also bashed Quinn for being Bloomberg's hand-picked successor and "has blood on her hands" for pushing the legislation through to allow his third term run.

Me too. Quinn would be a return to the failed Lindsay-Beame-Dinkins style leadership that led this city to the brink of destruction. What we need is a candidate in the Koch-Giuliani-Bloomberg tradition. (Hmm, I thought I made up "Koch-Giuliani-Bloomberg tradition")

I've always been fairly surprised as to how leadership quality isn't really a factor of party here in NYC.

Quinnipiac poll has 51% of NYC voters opposed to a Hillary Mayoral run. 46% support the idea. Statewide, 58% oppose.

Dear me! Koch as a good mayor? He was the worst of the worst, excellent at grandstanding while the city burned. Definitely worse even than Dinkins (who is given less credit than he deserves--crime started dropping on his watch, not Giuliani's) and not even remotely comparable to Giuliani and Bloomberg.

Gibberish.  Giuliani is one of the worst mayors NYC has had in the past 50 years, whereas Bloomberg is arguably the best since LaGuardia.

EDIT:  Somewhat embarrassingly, I don't know enough about Ed Koch's term to pass judgment.
