Actually, the other person seems like more of an asshole than Weiner does in this one particular case.

I agree.  NYC has different rules of politeness than America.  That's totally fine.

New NYT/Siena poll:

25% Quinn
16% Thompson
14% de Blasio
10% Weiner

Among Democrats who say they will definitely vote in the primary, Ms. Quinn is backed by 26 percent, followed by 19 percent for Mr. Thompson and 14 percent for Mr. de Blasio. A runoff will be held on Oct. 1 if none of the candidates win support from at least 40 percent.

...

44% Spitzer
35% Stringer

The citywide poll was conducted on landline phones and cellphones Aug. 2 to 7, among 505 registered Democrats; it has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus four percentage points. Data collection was conducted by Social Science Research Solutions of Media, Pa.

It's weird how nobody seems to be gaining much from the Weiner implosion.

I didn't know NYC was part of the Upper South.

(I'm thinking North Carolina and Kentucky, although Kentucky no longer has a runoff provision and the one they had from 1995 through 2007 was never activated because someone always got over 40%.)

Unfortunately, Quinn will probably outspend him by some ungodly amount in the runoff and win by like two points.

Latest Siena Poll shows Weiner with an 80% unfavorable rating in the city. That is a record in Siena polling.

GAME CHANGE

De Blasio 30%
Quinn 24%
Thompson 22%
Weiner 10%
Liu 6%
Albanese 1%

De Blasio 54
Quinn 38

De Blasio 50
Thompson 41

De Blasio 72
Weiner 22 (lol)

Pretty good chance that Quinn comes in third at this point, especially as New York polls usually underestimate minority turnout.

woooooow. New Frontrunner. Will this mean that De Blasio peaked just a little too early and it turns out Thompson comes up?

If, after all the dumb but entertaining things that defined this race, de Blasio comes out as the winner then this will probably be one of my favorite elections of all time.

Quinn seems to be Romney-ing this primary out. De Blasio's campaign has been tremendously good and should beat out Thompson at the least. I bet his lead would be even higher if Weiner left the race considering Thompson and Quinn are both staking out the center.

This may have been already asked, but could Quinn win the Independence Party primary while losing the Democratic one? Would she proceed to compete in the general election under this scenario or not seriously contest it, like Cuomo winning the Liberal Party's endorsement back in 2002? Could she win this way?

Today I found out that when I registered in NY state last year I picked no party for some damn fool reason, and I won't be able to vote in the primary as a result. Sad

I think I'm allowed to the vote in the Independence Party primary though?

If there is an Independence Party primary.  They're the only New York party that lets unaffiliated voters vote in their primary.  But....

This may have been already asked, but could Quinn win the Independence Party primary while losing the Democratic one? Is there going to be an Independence Party primary?  Adolfo Carrión Jr. was named by the party as their only candidate.  The only way somebody else who is not an Independence Party member could win the Independence Party line is if petitions were circulated for an opportunity to ballot and they then run a successful write-in campaign.  That's not unheard of in New York politics, but if the major Democratic candidates are trying to win the Independence Party line, I haven't heard anything about it from them.

The NYC and rest of NYS Independence Party leaders don't much like each other.  This article seems to suggest that the warring state party faction might have been circulating petitions for opportunity to ballot in the mayor's race.  I can't find anything on the NYC Board of Elections' crappy website indicating whether that happened or was successful.

Well, his wife and kids are African-American, so that makes sense. Those policies affect them.

Side note; Dante de Blasio (de Blasio's son) has the greatest Afro ever. Just look at it.
