Wonderful news! That would be great if we could avoid a run-off, but I doubt it'll happen. Looking more and likely that we'll have a de Blasio-Thompson faceoff.

The third term issue seems overblown to me. It's not like Quinn had the power to make Bloomberg mayor- the voters had to ratify it, and they did. The greater responsibility seems to fall on the opposition for not putting up a more vigorous candidate/campaign that would have presented more of a choice in 2009.

Also, I don't see why Bloomberg is so hated. The city seems to have done well under his tenure, and he's used his platform to become an important advocate on gun control issues.

Looks like Quinn is close to toast and the best candidate wins over her. Nice.

Great; I haven't followed this race that closely, but I hope de Blasio wins.

Don't trust these polls.  Also, Stringer went up with TV ads more recently while Spitzer had been up for a few weeks,

Also, Quinn is unpopular for allowing Bloomberg to get a 3rd term. And in case you haven't noticed, Bloomberg isn't exactly popular on this forum. Quinn would be the closest thing to Bloomberg's 4th term.

Bloomberg is very popular with me though. Smiley

I've been casual on this.  Is deblasio winning goods or bad?

I find people with De/La prefixes in their name to be universally fringe crazies

Good. De Blasio is by far and away the best candidate in this race.

De Blasio wants to get rid of stop and frisk, wants to tax the rich, and has an African-American family while he's a white guy.

He's one of the good guys.

Joe Lhota is the only candidate who would prefer kittens being run over to delayed subway trains so far, for the record.

Lhota is a horrid person. Catsimatidis is a goofy old man who would no doubt make a terrible mayor but I still hope he wins in an upset in the primary.

This may have something to do with the fact that he was the only candidate to run the MTA.

Joe Lhota is the only candidate who would prefer kittens being run over to delayed subway trains so far, for the record.

Good for him. We're talking about a city where millions of people rely on public transportation to get around every day. The alternative is routinely stranding thousands of people for long periods of time (in the case of the kitten-herding incident earlier this week, at least ninety minutes). This isn't a decision that the mayor would make, but it's disappointing to see that only one candidate would put keeping the city functioning ahead of pandering.

That's why Joe Lhota is the only man who can be mayor of New York city Wink
