This is something that's always piqued my curiosity -- as to whether or not a candidate with a libertarian or close-to-libertarian ideology will ever become viable on the national stage. Conventional wisdom would assume that this is the direction the GOP will go considering the amount of backlash over social issues, when would this actually happen, and at what point does a presidential candidate who shares that ideology become viable for the country?

Define "Libertarian"? There may be many who classify so-called pro-life libertarians as simply neo-Buchananite Conservatives.

"Libertarianism" isn't a real ideology.

I can't see an out and out libertarian winning in the next 50 years. However a libertarian leaning conservative is a real possibility.
