The former Nebraska Republican senator is being considered  for a national security position.
Hagel, who co-chairs President Barack Obama’s Intelligence Advisory Board, which provides independent advice on the effectiveness of the intelligence community, could be in contention for either secretary of state or secretary of defense, people familiar with the vetting process say. Hagel, a moderate realist on foreign policy, would be a comfortable ideological fit for the president. He has publicly supported many of the administration’s foreign-policy moves from his perch at Georgetown University, while often excoriating the GOP for what he sees as a takeover by “the extreme right.

I think he would be great at the CIA or Sec. of Defense

This would be one of the greatest moves of President Obama's presidency.

I would be satisfied with this. All he needs now is to appoint Lugar to Secretary of State and I'll go from Strongly Disapprove to Not Quite as Strongly Disapprove. Wink

I'll probably try to round up the old Hagel '08 gang and see if they'll join me in sending some letters to the White House.  Not that Obama will read them, but hey, it can't hurt.

I'd be okay with Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary.

It's most likely for CIA Director:

Sec. of State: Susan Rice
Sec. of Defense: John Kerry
National Security Advisor: Tom Donilon stays on
CIA Director: Chuck Hagel
UN Ambassador: Tony Blinken

"I hessitate to say this, because I don't want to hurt them. And I know that it will. But I would make Chuck Hagel my Vice President and I would pick Dick Lugar as my Secretary of State"

- Then Senator Joe Biden at 2007 Democratic Primary Debate when asked about if he would pick any Republicans to be his VP or in his cabinet to show bipartisanship.
