Why don't MA Democrats just go back to gubernatorial appointment? It's not like they'd be seriously punished for it...even if it's blatantly partisan.

I believe there's gubernatorial appointment, just not until next regular cycle (remember Paul Kirk?)

Barack Obama, is feeling his oats by even considering Susan Rice for the State Department; her nomination, while it his prerogative is political short-sighted and pushing Rice is a negative pure and simple, it's a 50/50 proposition if she even gets through a confirmation process; Republicans smell blood in the water, and if Ayotte, Graham and McCain are joined by Susan Collins in a filibuster, then that legitimizes the whole Benghazi mess as a Obama problem; he would be wise to give her a pass and go with the safer pick of John Kerry, besides Obama owes Kerry big time, as it was Kerry who gave Obama his break in national politics, when he gave Obama that keynote spot in 2004; Kerry has been vetted by the media, his confirmation guarantee's almost smooth sailing, a slam dunk; with Rice, you have only a guarantee of a fractious and drawn out confirmation fight; if there is a drip drip effect of more revelations over her past record or her role in Benghazi, she gets rejected; Obama is seen as short sighted; make Rice National Security Adviser instead.

The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Besides you are asking the wrong question.  You should be asking why do the pale, old, dumbs have such a problem with Rice.
