Fall of 2015 will mark 4 years since the end of 'Don't ask. Don't tell'. Will the GOP field of candidates be asked if they favor reinstating it? Who will say yes and no?

Perhaps "tough guys" such as Santorum will continue to insist that gays in the military are some how less fit to serve then he is- guess what Senator, those gay men volunteered to serve our country, far more then can be said for you!

How would you even reinstate it?  We've had over a year with people asking and telling.  You can't un-ask or un-tell  I would think the only rational anti-gay policy Republicans could take is going back to pre-DADT and discharging all the openly gay people in the Armed services.

Honestly, I think by 2016 it won't even come up and the Republicans will just ignore it.  Gay marriage is a much more effective political issue for the Christian right anyway.

This will be asked in a GOP primary, and a couple candidates will likely be for re-instatement. For the most part, though, all credible candidates for the nomination will have to say the matter is settled.

Reminder that GOP policy positions don't need to "make sense" or "be based in reality." So they can easily support re-instating DADT even though that's a position that's basically impossible at this point.

No.  Once DADT was repealled, it can't be put back into place in a workable fashion.

The frontrunners will either not comment on it because they have no guts or support re-instating it because they are stupid. The GOP has a whole shopping list of people they need to appeal to before they get to gays. Take gay marriage. By 2016 you'll probably have close to 60-65% of the population backing gay marriage and only about a hard core 20-25% who oppose any form of civil union, most of whom will be either close to death or the type who think that Jesus wants them for a sunbeam. Guess who the GOP will chase after...

Another way of thinking of this:
What percentage of the GOP Iowa caucus electorate in 2016 will support the reinstatement of DADT? I'm guessing it'll still be a fair number, and they're going to want to have a candidate who speaks their language.
I'm guessing that candidate is not named Bush, Rubio or Christie.

Let me be clear, there is a lot of good discussion on the issue, and that is a good thing for America. Tongue
