LA-05: good news for the LA democratic party. They should definitely try to compete here with the blue dog state representative. With Landrieu on the ticket, there would definitely be a run off with him, and it will help her. I can a slight possibility of pick up if Mary Landrieu carries this district by single digit. But of course, it's at best likely rep, and if a candidate runs here, it will be mostly to help Landrieu's reelection!

Mcallister is toast!

LA-05: Speaking of affairs, there are a few more developments from this race. First, we heard from Heath Peacock, the guy who's wife McAllister was smooching with. He calls McAllister out on pandering:

This is could be pretty damning, as McAllister laid the whole "I'm a Christian family values conservative" veneer on pretty darn thick in his ads.

I'm far from shocked.  That's simply how politicians operate.  Many of them are about as religious as I am.

I'm sure these calls for resignation are motivated purely by moral objections to what he did, rather than hoping this gives Neil Riser or whoever a second chance at a Congressional seat.

They can always run against him again. Filing deadline's not till August.

It also sucks for the NRSC that both Hollis and Maness are from CD1. If they were from CD5, Republicans could lobby one or both of them to drop down.

Yes but it's always easier to make it an open race.

NC-Sen: In a Corssroads poll, Tillis leads in the primary with 27% to Brannon's 16% and Harris 10%. I wouldn't put as much stock in this as SUSA or PPP, as Crossroads is pro-Tillis.

More NC-Sen: Harris is out with his first ad. Idk about the actual size of the buy. He packs a lot into it and the patriotic music is a bit too overwrought, IMO. In terms of substance, though, it hits on all the 'essentials' for the target audience.

LA/NC-Sen: Hagan and Landrieu have joined several other red-state Dems in sending a letter to Obama; they asked him to approve the Keystone XL project by May.

LA-Sen: A longer piece about how Landrieu is defying expectations in this environment. As most of the things its mentions we cover her, I won't try to summarize it.

LA-06: For fundraising, Graves has taken in $250K with about $180K for Claitor. No word on Dietzel, but I'd expect his to be higher, considering he's been running a more visible campaign and has been in longer.

NC-06: Here's a very good 'cheat sheet' summary of this race. Basically, it can be summed up in two words: "Berger King."

NC-2016/Misc.Sad Looking at political rising stars nationwide, MSNBC turns to NC. It mentions Treasurer Janet Cowell; if the environment is at least decent, I can see her making a run at Senate in 2016. The other is a personal favorite of mine, Senator Josh Stein; Stein reps' Wake County and will be running for AG in 2016.

The Republicans mentioned are Rep. Tim Moore, who's being floated as a Tillis replacement for Speaker, and Phil Berger (Sr.). I'm not sure how much 'rising' Berger Sr. has to do though; he reps' a safe seat and, barring retirement, will be leading the majority at least until 2022. Baby Berger would have been a better pick.

Tillis is skipping another debate, but this one is a primetime televised debate

I'm pretty sure Tillis thinks the other candidates are beneath him or something like that.

Yet another reason (aside from the fact that he's a poor man's Chris McDaniel) that I want Brannon to win.

LA-Sen: Landrieu is out with an ad focusing on her work for the coastal oil industry. Substantively, I think its effective as it emphasizes her difference with Obama on energy while touting her Energy Chairmanship.

On a related note, I've finally achieved my dream of being a TV star. I was on set when they were filming the ad. At about the 20 second mark, I'm the guy at the bar reaching down into my pocket. The whole state will get a great look at the back of my head. Grin

NC-Sen: One of the first major state papers to roll out endorsements ahead of the primary is the Greensboro News & Record. Its gone with Jim Snyder for the Republicans; they cite his legal expertise and attention to issues that the other candidates ignore. They've also obviously endorsed Hagan for re-nomination.

More NC-Sen: State Sen. Bob Rucho, one of the top NCGA Republicans said this about the primary:

The implication is that if Brannon or Harris somehow snag the nomination, the national party would cut them loose. The GOP could get a majority without NC and I can see why they'd be reluctant to help gaffe-prone insurgent Republicans who could create headaches for leadership once in the Senate.

NC-12: Smuggie Mitchell has pulled out of the race. With Q3 numbers not out yet, he cited poor fundraising. I really wouldn't be surprised to see him run for mayor again next year. There was a very strong contingent of his supports pushing for his appointment.

The main beneficiary is Malcolm Graham, though this may give George Battle an opening.

Majority PAC bought 3 weeks, 525k of advertising in NC-Sen. 564k for Crossroads. In LA-Sen, Landrieu has a new ad out and is reserving $2 million of airtime till the end of June.

Sigh. Apparantly in the new ad they had Landrieu reenact part of a committee hearing. Whatever.

FWIW, when they were filming the ad, they showed us the original clip.

NC-Sen: The NRA has endorsed Tillis. The 2nd Amendment groups are split on this race as Gun Owners of America and the Nat'l Association for Gun Rights support Brannon.

More NC-Sen: Harris raised $803K in Q1, which is actually more than Brannon.

NC-07: This is the 'cheat sheet' article for CD7.

LA-06: Edwards raised $33K. Not much, though he only just launched his actual campaign apparatus two weeks ago.

NC-02: Aiken raised $233K; a small haul considering all the hype about his candidacy. Crisco raised a decent $450K while Ellmers took in $322K.

LA-06: This should help with libertarian Republicans:

NC-03: Tepid fundraising for Jones; only $102K raised in Q1 while spending $71K. A bit worrying considering outside groups are buying $400K+ ad slots against him.

LA-05: McAllister cancels all events during Easter break. I hope this gives him more time to sort things through with his family.

McAllister's fundraising was only $47K.

LA-06: Graves 320k, Claitor 180k, Dietzel 97k. What sort of money will be needed there, Miles? Assuming no one calls in outside help...
