As I said, he wouldn't clear the field, but he'd likely be the only one from the Charlotte area.

Cain might join him. Foxx and Ellmers are probably out, we know Berger is.

AP article says he's "viewed as a moderate within his party, someone more aligned with the North Carolina business community than with social conservatives." As if one can't be both while having one as a primary focus. I'm pretty Miles wouldn't call Tillis a moderate. Tongue

His only claim to "moderation" within his party is that he didn't support the bill to make a state religion. So yeah, I guess you could say he isn't as socially conseravtive as some in the NCGOP would like XD

Edwin Peacock, who's the Republican running for Charlotte mayor, would be my idea of a "moderate" NC Republican.

He's running from the right to the center, which is interestingly the opposite of the approach McCrory took.

Progress NC, state group I follow, is going to have a field day with his candidacy. They were already out with this gem:

Berger will decide by the end of July. What are the odds he runs against Tillis? Doesn't make sense to have both legislative leaders running.

None.

Berger wants to stay in the Senate to screw around with state's the tax plan.

Just a week in, Tillis is assembling the rudiments of his campaign team. We'll be seeing more POS polls, as that will be his pollster.

Is it true that Landrieu's trying to hire some Heitkamp consultants?

It wouldn't surprise me because she was campaigning hard for Heitkamp last year.

So she'll run wholeheartedly on her voting record then. Both paths have their dangers, but if any of the Southern trio can make the center a position of strength rather than weakness, Landrieu's definitely the one.

She's not one to run from her record.

Alternative's worse. I expect her main thrust to be "I've done and will do more for LA than my opponent, who won't get my seniority till his 75th birthday" rather than federal issues.

Finally, some news from NC-03.

Jone's challenger, army vet Jason Thigpen, is calling on him to resign. Yikes.

Thigpen says that Jones voted for the Iraq War just to win re-election. Except he's always won in landslides.

On the positive side, Jones will get financial help from 21-year old millionaire John Ramsey. Ramsey is a libertarian who has the SuperPAC Liberty For All Action Fund.

Damn. I'm 21 too; I wish I had that kinda coin to spend on Landrieu's campaign.

What's happening in North Carolina? There are these huge protests against NC Republicans.

Obviously the R majority in the general assembly is locked in by redistricting. The D can cut R advantage of supermajority to just simple majority: that is if the D can get their party back in order.

I am very surprise that the R is driving the state hard to the right just as the state is becoming more and more purple. NC is probably 8 years behind VA.
