Considering Republicans now consider you insufficiently pure unless you agree to shut down the government indefinitely, can they now be legitimately described as anarchists?

Actually, I take that back. Turns out even Maness has condemned it.

Thom Tillis, who may be Krazen's alter ego.

Sounds like he's describing post-2008 congressional Republicans.

Does anyone else find it strange that Hagan seems to be doing even worse in the polls than Pryor/Landrieu despite being from a much bluer state and facing much more toxic opponents?

It doesn't surprise me, since Hagan is a weaker opponent. Pryor/Landrieu have family legacy, and therefore have their own personal brand of sorts. Hagan is basically a Generic D, who is fairly unknown. That is precisely why I think AFP went after her in the first place. She was the easiest to define, and so they were able to drive her unfavorables up. If the GOP had a relatively strong opponent (McCrory, had he passed up on Governor for example), I think Hagan would be toast by now, whereas Pryor and Landrieu still have a fighting chance.

Yeah, that's a good point. At the moment, I wonder if the relative anonymity of the GOP field is actually HELPING them in the polls by positioning them as "generic R". It would explain why Hagan seems to consistently trail them. Although Hagan's approvals are pretty bad, she definitely fits the state better than some right wing Tea Party activist or a SoCon pastor.

I've sparred with these true left purists in both states and they annoy me to no end. She supports Obama on all the bread and butter issues. You're not gonna elect a freakin Bernie Sanders from a 48% (or 41%) Obama state.

Learn from the tea party!! I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but the only reason Democrats even have a senate majority is because lefties aren't primarying people and proceeding to lose in general elections. Technically Republicans should have seats in CO, NV, ND, MO, IN, and DE if they had nominated stronger candidates. And that would be the majority.

You're not preaching to the choir, actually. Many of the leftists here think that the Tea Party tactics should be duplicated. I recall one even saying he admired Cruz for shutting down the government and wished Democrats would use the same tactics.

If McAllister makes it into the runoff, does Mayo have a shot?

I think there would still be enough Republicans who who hold their nose for McAllister.

The biggest beneficiary in that scenario would be Landrieu. Republican enthusiasm would be down with McAllister and Mayo would be able to turn out more votes in Monroe (and a few other towns with strong black populations, like Bastrop and Ruston).

Would Republican enthusiasm really be down? They seemed pretty high on Vitter in 2010, and what he did was far worse than McAllister.

NC-Sen: Cillizza agrees with my reasoning the Hagan/Obama/Burr exchange:

Clearly whether Hagan shook Obama's hand or not should be the top issue of the campaign in the minds of North Carolinians. Wink

Miles, what's your take on Maness? Do you think he has a real chance at making the runoff? I would assume he does since a lot of the moderates/pragmatists which would normally be Cassidy's base will be voting for Landrieu in the jungle.

Yeah, when I read Tillis was touted as a "top recuit", I thought: "by who, his mom?"

It seems Politico is picking up the pace on their GOP hackery right before the election.

That's odd...doesn't Landrieu have her own war chest? Or did she spend it all?

Yeah, that's why I said I wish she just lost on November 4th. Then she just would've just been another Southern Democratic incumbent swept out in the wave. Now she's going to be humiliated with the spotlight completely on her. Pretty sad.

Landrieu losing by a Corbett-like margin would actually be a good result for her at this point.
