Christie Says He's Not Too Fat to be President

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) told ABC News that even though he is "more than a little" overweight, it's "ridiculous" to think that he is too heavy to be president of the United States.

Said Christie: "I've done this job pretty well. I think people watched me for the last number of weeks during Hurricane Sandy doing 18-hour days and getting back up the next day and still being just as effective in the job, so i don't think that will be a problem."

He's right. Obesity should not be an issue.

He's right. Obesity should not be an issue.

One William Howard Taft was enough.  Do we really want another?

Considering obesity leads to diabetes, Christie is wrong that it shouldn't be an issue.  And I really don't want kids to emulate him.  We just turned a corner on the obesity epidemic.

It's only because evil socialist "First Lady" Michelle Obama has been indoctrinating our children with such unAmerican ideas like healthy food and exercise.

Kids are not colouring themselves black either, just because Obama is one.

Instead, President Christie could implement programs to keep children healthy.

Unless he is following his own advice, why should kids follow his?

It's not a deal breaker for me (not that I would vote for Christie anyway, but just for the sake of argument), but it is something I would consider. For practical health reasons (4 years is a long time for someone that fat), but also the role the President should have as a role model, it's certainly not a good thing.

It will come up as an issue, especially considering that his GOP rivals are all in good-to-excellent shape. Image contrast + MSM critique (remember all their talk of McCain's medical history + age?) means they don't have to say a word. Health is important for a would-be POTUS. Not a disqualifier, just something to think about IMO.

It's a good reason to be concerned about who he picks as VP, but it won't hold me back from voting for him.

He appears to be moderate to the New Jersey public, but once he steps outside New Jersey, it is a different issue when he have to campaign in S.C. The issue isn't his weight but when he goes to the right cause he clearly told Fox News he is a conservative. Giuliani found that out when he clearly stated he would appoint conservatives to the federal bench.

You can't choose your race, gender, or sexual orientation. But you can choose to become fat.

This -also, being obese is a health condition.  The others are not.

Not sure a gay person should be comparing sexual orientation to obesity...

I'm a little disgusted that you'd even think of comparing racism to judging someone based on their dietary/hygienic decisions, which is perfectly rational.

edit: if you said the same thing based on MPB, height or perceived attractiveness due to factors outside of one's own control, I could see the basis for the comparison.

Yep. Even the most trivial stuff comes up regarding a candidate's health/personal appearance. Biden's hairplugs, Obama's jeans, Romney's hair dye or lack thereof, Ryan's abs, widow's peak and baggy clothes- and that's just from the last cycle. Now we're seeing MSM discussion of Hillary's age and Rubio's receding hairline. Christie knows this, which is why he's trying to defuse it now.

But more generally, weight is the least of Christie's problems in a primary, which he also knows.

Here are some of the problems that obesity (unchecked) can lead to:

-heart disease
-type 2 diabetes
-cancer
-stroke
-osteoarthritis
-obstructive sleep apnea

Obesity can also reduce your lifespan anywhere from 2 to 4 to 10 years, depending on its severity.

At least he quit.  Is Christie doing anything to deal with his obesity, or is he going on the, 'I'm fat and I'm proud' route?

If Obama didn't quit, would you have wanted Americans to not vote for him, Frodo? Did you support Ted Kennedy in his 2006 re-election bid?

Let's make this easier: just admit you're a hypocrite and move on.
