27 lives are gone, people. Most of them children. How about we respect that now and save the gun control debate and miscellaneous partisan vomit for a time when the bodies aren't still warm?

I believe the theory would be this could happen again tomorrow if we don't take action today.

I don't think any gun control would stop these kind of things... they'll just find a different weapon.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims.

Do you really think he could have knifed 27 people to death? I guess he could have used a crossbow, but that's about it...

I hate to have to ask this, but don't American schools all have some kind of campus police / security people running around. Or does that not apply to primary schools?

I don't think that's standard at any level. At least, I've never seen it.

Does anyone have the numbers for the number of children killed by guns every year?  I realize I could Google it, but I want actual, unbiased numbers...

Why do people act like it would be so easy to get an illegal gun if the most deadly guns were illegal?  I agree it would be possible for years, until the police eventually confiscate them all, but I definitely don't think it would be easy.  I think most people don't really have any idea where to find an illegal gun...

It is somewhat ironic that some folks that staunchly support drug legalization because "people will get drugs anyway and prohibition doesn't work" also believe that prohibition on guns will work well.

Even more ironically, the same people who say all guns have to be legal because people will still be able to get them will NEVER acknowledge that women will still have abortions if abortions are illegal.

Perhaps I am naive, but I'd venture to guess that if this Lanza fellow had been properly diagnosed and was receiving medical as well as psychiatric care, those 27 people would still be alive, and he'd be living a more productive life.

If you simply took the guns away.. he'd be stewing in his own misery/anger/sociopathic tendencies just waiting to get his hands on someone else's guns.

Or we could do both as a fail-safe?

Wait, nobody died in the Chinese school knifing incident? That sure isn't how the pro gun lobby was spinning it. If only Lanza had only had a knife...
