Black.  While not the best, he took a harder line against the South than others.

Groesbeck seems more inoffensive than others here. Though surely Charles O'Conor should be here?

Man, at this point I think the Democrats would have folded and merged with the Liberal Republicans.

A mediocre bunch. If this election doesn't bring about the end of the Democrats, nothing will. I voted for Black.

They're all going to let the South get away with rebellion. None-of-the-above.

I don't think the democrats are done yet.  Remember there's still interesting choices at the conventions.  Looking ahead to 1876, there's Tilden.  I'm also pretty interested by Joel Parker of New Jersey.  He sounds like a moderate democrat with a sound fiscal policy.

Yes, that's true. I just see them coming in a rather distant third this time around, and they haven't had any electoral success since the war. At this point, they're probably better off folding into the Liberal Republicans.

I also like Joel Parker, but I'm not sure whether I'd prefer him over Tilden.

Also, they didn't win a post-Civil War Presidential victory until 1884 in RL.

Still wondering about this. O'Connor was the main choice of the Democrats who wouldn't support Greeley. Where did these options come from?
